Do I need the morning after pill?

Ok. Dd is 13weeks today. Am breastfeeding but not exclusively - she has 1 bottle a day. Am on mini pill.

I missed 1 mini pill 1 week ago. I didn't read up so didn't take it when I realised like you should, just skipped it all together.

I then had sex tonight.

Do I need the morning after pill? Everything I read says you need to use extra contraception for 2 days if you take the missed pill when you remember - nothing about if you miss one and don't take it.

Oh wow, i could have written your post. I had unprotected sex 2 weeks ago, im also breastfeeding but use the odd bottle of formula when i have a drink and plus my baby sleeps through the night so im not as frequent with night feeds as day feeds (which means your periods may start sooner)

I didnt take the morning after pill, I'm not really sure why. I feel a part of me wouldnt be against having another baby, even though my son is 3 and a half months old. I dont know whether or not im pregnant. Not 100 percent sure, anyway. Ill be testing next week.

But as with any form of unprotected sex, there is a risk. If you do not want a baby, then YES.Take the morning after pill. In future, take precautions. I will too.

hi op. your missed pill was 1 week ago. You need 48 hrs of progesterone only pill after missed pill to be safe again so if sex was 1 week after missed pill you are safe as long as all pills since then. this is different to advice for combined oral contraceptive pills. both come with advice sheets inside the box. progesterone only pills do not come with a week's break they are continuous just in case others are confused.

if you are ever in doubt about your need for emergency contraception you can contact your gp / family planning clinic / local pharmacist / nhs direct.

if forgetting to take pills is an issue you could speak to gp/ fp clinic about coil/ depo injection or nexplanon to remove memory from the equation. fpa has leaflets on all.

BF confers no protection whatsoever unless your baby is exclusively BF (not even the odd bottle), on demand and round the clock.

So you need to read the "missed pill" instructions from the minipill pack leaflet and follow them to the letter; taking MAP or going for an emergency coil fitting if you have put yourself at risk and do not want to risk PG.
