Mirena coil - your opinion?

Hi, I had my first baby 8 months ago and have now had the mirena in 2 months. I suffered with heavy periods due to Endometriosis but since the insertion I have not stopped bleeding, I have gained nearly a stone in weight and have had nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain since? I just wanted to know if anyone else has had similar problems?

Thanks :-)

Poor you, that sounds awful. I am on my second Mirena. The first took a whole (around 6 months) to settle down and I had almost constant light bleeding. Once it had settled I had regular but very light periods. I didn't have any nausea, pain or vomiting. Have you been back to your GP? I don't have any medical qualifications to suggest this but I wonder if it might be worth ruling out an infection? Hope you feel better soon.

Hi thanks for the reply. Ive been to GP they stuck me on Northestirone and the pill and Im still bleeding and poorly and they wont take it out! I think I will ask to be checked for an infection I think you are right it does need ruling out. Im just disappointed as like yourself I have heard so many positive stories and got excited about having one in but its just been down hill since. God I sound like Im really on my soap box! Ha x

I'm sorry that you've had such a bad time. I nearly gave up on mine but as I say after 6 months it got much better. Having said that your situation sounds terrible. Why won't they take it out? I hope that you get dome answers when you go back. X

Hi op, sorry you're having such a rough time. I really struggled with mirena too, had it because I was bfeeding and struggled for a year before (irregular frequent bleeding, no sex drive at all, weird hot/cold flushes) finally I felt like it moved and was poking into me! So had it out and went on the mini pull. It just doesn't work for some people, I would have it out immediately if I were you. Good luck...xx

I struggled witb mi e for about 5-6 months. Lots of bleeding and cramps. Very hormonal too.

Now I feel better hormonally, bleed a tiny about when I have my period and get no pain at all.

My issue is that I have piled on the weight. Its all around my belly. I look pregnant. I also have horrendously sore and lumpy boobs.

My gp refuse to listen when I say this is due to the mirena. The keep telling me I must have IBS Hmm im getting mine out in next month. I cant wait.
