Contraception advice please?

I was considering having the contraceptive implant because I thought it'd be nice not to have to think about contraception.
However I've seen a lot of people on here complaining about it saying it's awful. I am a little sceptical as I feel you're more likely to say how much you hate it if it's bad than that you like it if it was good?

Any experiences with the coil also? If the implant is having a lot of bad reactions I thought having a coil fitted could be a good idea. Although it doesn't appear to be a common method of contraception?

AFAIK the coil is pretty common. I have the copper one (no hormones) and I'm well happy with it. Mirena (with hormones) seems to be pretty marmite, like the implant.

Some people do really not get on with hormonal contraceptives of any sort, at all. Me for one. Anecdotally it seems to happen quite often that people are fine with them for years then suddenly really aren't. But, don't forget, people who do get on fine with them tend not to mention it...

I've just been reading about the two types of coils and thought the copper one did sound the best.
Have you had any side effects at all?
I'm concerned about weight gain and mood swings. I don't want to be moody!

Also how was it when you were having it fitted? I'm a little concerned as I remember it hurting a lot when examined during labour, will it be as bad as that do you think?

I had the implant fitted in August - have not given it a thought since! It was easy to have fitted with aneasthetic and I have not noticed any mood swings, weight gain etc.

I did consider the mirena coil but opted against it because so many women seem to have problems with it.

I think the problem with hormonal contraceptive is that different people react differently and there is n way of knowing which way you will react.

I did try the contraceptive injection a few years ago and I had a period for 10 days (normally 4) and started getting a little spotty, is that an indication the implant could be similar? I am tempted to go for the copper coil if it isn't hormonal as that seems as if it'll have fewer side effects other than bleeding if I am not mistaken?
