Contraception help please

Hi mumsnetters

What do people most commonly choose for long term contraception that is relatively problem free? Bit tired of condoms now ...having two little ones I don't want an unexpected third anytime soon!

If you might want another DC at some point, then permanent methods are out, and you're trying to get away from barrier methods. Natural methods require a lot of attention, so probably fail the 'relatively problem free' criteria.

That leaves implant, jab, traditional coil and mirena. Do you know how you get on with hormonal methods?

I used to take the contraceptive pill for a number if tears before I had my children but found I suffered a lot if negative side effects such as bloating, headache low mood etc.

I am thinking about trying it again but one with few or minor side effects.

Thinking about the coil but it sounds a bit scary from what I've read.

I haven't looked at the implant. Will look that up.

There's a huge amount of options but the non hormonal are my preferred options. I'd just like something I don't need to think about too much as my memory is not as sharp now with the demands of two babies!

One thing you might want to look into is the ring. Yes it's hormonal, but it's much lower dose because of means of delivery, it's daily low maintenance and doesn't requir inserting like a coil.

I was in the same position and went for the implanon implant, I've found it absolutely fine, first time in was fine pain wise - although replacing it was tougher.

Does your partner feel the same way, has he considered a vasectomy?

I just googled the ring. Thank you I hadn't heard of this method and it sound a good option which I think I will try.

This is the ring I meant but I suspect you've already found info on it. The thing you need to remember is to put one back in after the 7 days out. But if you think you can do that, it's really low maintenance.

And if you don't get on with it, you can just take it out yourself.
