Implanon running out

I had the implant 3 years ago and am due to have it replaced. It is due on the 5th Jan but I can't get an appointment until Feb. Obviously we have to be careful after the 5th, but I'm wondering if we should be using extra protection now, I mean how can it last exactly 3 years?

If they say it runs out on the 5th, does that mean exactly, or I would assume they err on the side of caution and you actually have a bit longer? Confused, and I can't seem to find the answer anywhere!

I'm sure it's just slowly increasing risk after the 5th. On average Drops below 98% chance of protection (or whatever its usual statistic is).
Depends how important it is to you to avoid getting pg, I guess!

sorry, posted too soon:
You've lived with (for example) 98% protection so far, would you be scared if that dropped to mere 94% before replacement?
