I used to use feminax which worked for me but after dd was born in 2008 I used a pill I could breast feed with but hated how it affected me emotionally, so once bfing stopped I went back to feminax. It was fine but I had very little sex drive (figured this was due to a 1 yo who barely slept). After a year and a half I had a sickness bug when I was due to begin the month's pill so seemed pointless taking it and I planned to restart the following month. Once the bug had gone my sex drive returned and I realised it was the pill's affect. For a year we used withdrawl method as we planned a 2nd dc at some point so although not entirely planned it would have been fine with both dh and I if I did fall pg. We then chose to ttc and I now have 15mo beautiful twins. The risk of having a 4th dc is too much as it would be a nightmare financially and car-wise too.

After dtds were born I had the implanon implant at my 6 week check up. I loved it, no problems until dtds were 9mo (2.5months after I stopped bfing), my periods were heavy, painful and every other week! I've had it removed and now don't know where to turn.

dh offered to have the snip but I'm not 100% our family is complete (probably is), just seems too final. The coil is not an option after my friend's failed, and I also have issues re people going down there with speculums since dd1's birth (that's another story).

I want something that will stop pg but not make me an emotional wreck or remove sex drive. My periods were very regular before dtds but now I get extra mini bleeds during the month and cramps are back to how they were as a teen. I just don't understand my body anymore.

Help!

I use a Mirena IUD. It is great and I do not have periods at all now. It is basically like an ultra low dose of the pill directly into the uterus, from what I understand and lasts 5 years, then you have to get a new one fitted. I hear what you are saying about speculums but... it's pretty quick to have fitted, less obstrusive IMHO than the coil, and worth 5 mins of discomfort for 5 years of birth control, I think.

I also have a Mirena coil - I found having it inserted not the nicest experience ever, but feel it was worth it for not having any periods and being able to have sex without worrying about getting pregnant.

So implant is out, iud and ius is out, snip is out, sterilization is out

Pill would be a case of trial and error to find one which suits
Cap?
Injection?
Nuvaring?

Have you used the 'my contraception' tool on the fpa website?

Ps, I think you are right about the loss of sex drive on the pill.I suspect there's a lot of people have this and don't realize.
