At least where I am anyway. Which I understand given it's cost, though I am not happy about it. What I don't understand is why the nurse was not allowed to tell me why (she doesn't know that I know how much it costs). Do they not expect people to ask why their pill will no longer be available?

Anyway just thought I'd let you all know incase it affects you.

A bit of googling has told me that this decision was made much earlier in the year.

Which would be why for the last 9 months I have had to go back to the FPC 3 times as each time they have only given me one packet because they "haven't got any more in stock". Why didn't they just tell me on one of my previous visits that I need to change pills?

Oh god!! Was just chatting to a pal about thinking of getting mirena...but I liked Yasmin and it suited me fine! Wtf!
Now I am actually, honestly, truly confused. What ARE my options and what i mean is what are my options that won't cause miserable side effects!

I liked Yasmin. Should go and get a bulk order of it..they give me 6 monthly supply around here and then I need to see the Gp again..

I have the same situation. I don't know what to use now instead - I've tried lots of pills - all of them don't suit and even yasmin isn't perfect but better than others. Got pregnant while using the coil (was fine for 4 years but.........)

I've just checked online and it will cost £45 for 3 months supply if I buy it myself - WTF?? This is a lot more than it costs the NHS.

I've just been prescribed yasmin for the first time today (hence my researching on MN and discovery of this thread). Wouldn't have thought they'd prescribe me it new if they're stopping it, so maybe depends on where you live?

Some PCTs in some areas (including mine) are refusing to prescribe it point blank (not allowed) due to costs.

In my area the family planning will not prescribe due to costs (blanket "ban") but the GP will very reluctantly (if you are insistent).

I assume in some areas neither will prescribe it.

I wouldn't buy it from internet, pills can be unsafe for some people, first I'd try a consultation with a private GP (I did that years ago when the GP wouldn't prescribe me Spironolactone for PCOS excess hair despite it being recommended for it). Usually if you go in with a good case and it is not risky for you to have something then a private GP will write a private prescription for you. (It costs about £30 - £60 for an appointment and maybe £10 for the prescription, but you don't have to go for the consultation fee every month).

It shouldn't be this way but it is sadly. x x x

I think the ban in some areas was due to lots of people requesting it as it is known for NOT causing bloating and fluid retention like some other pills can do (this is true, it's progesterone contains a small dose of an analogue of spironolactone, a diuretic), so is known as "the weight loss pill" but as it is expensive they have stopped it.

Otherwise, you could try Marvelon/Gedarel or Femodene which are similar to Yasmin but may not suit exactly.
