morning after pill and bf

Hi ds is 3 weeks old and I am breastfeeding him.
Dp and I got a little carried away last night and stupidly didn't use any contraception!

I know I know, we should know better.

Is it safe to get the morning after pill whilst breastfeeding?

Yes, you can take it when breastfeeding. But at 3 weeks the likelihood of being fertile if you are exclusively breastfeeding (very very often round the clock) is very small. Not impossible of course, but very small.

FWIW I did the same at 3 weeks, because I just 'forgot' I wasn't pregnant anymore and had been off the pill for so long Blush

Thanks moaningminge, its just been so long since we had to think about it, it just didn't o occur to us, seems stupid now, glad you have done it too, that makes me feel better.

We are bf very very often, every 2 hours or less mostly.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes you can, its fine.

I would think it is unlikely you would get pregnant especially if you are exclusively breastfeeding. I know that you can start taking oral contraceptives from 21 days after birth. Breastfeeding itself can act as a contraceptive
