Why do you need to get it on prescription from a chemist?

Just curious, I'm getting mine today and getting it fitted on Friday.

Is it something to do with the hormones in it needing to be prescribed? Not sure, but just guessing that the hormones come on prescription, and it's just being fitted by doctor/nurse on Friday.

All the best with it anyway, have heard different reports.

Yes good luck, I had one if those once. The baby it was supposed to prevent is currently having his second breakfast of the morning!!! Grin

I'm actually very glad it failed. Ds is delightful Grin

Tee2072 · 24/07/2012 11:07

Oh don't tell me that, baby! Another baby would not be a good thing!

That could be Needles. Didn't think of that! I have also heard mixed reports so we'll see how it goes...

I never had to get mine from the chemist although mine was fitted in a family planning clinic so they already had them on-site.

Babylon1 · 24/07/2012 12:35

Sorry Tee!!!!

It was a bit of a massive shock for us too!!!

KatoPotato · 24/07/2012 12:39

Be warned, when you go to pick it up at the chemists... the box is huge! About 15inches long! I was handed it with two paper bags on each end, much to the wonder and amusement of most of Morrisons.... then I had to sit in GP reception with proudly poking out my bookstart bag...

ChessieFL · 24/07/2012 12:39

I had to get mine from a chemist too. Warning - the box is MASSIVE, quite off putting when you consider where the thing is going!!

ChessieFL · 24/07/2012 12:39

x post Kato!!

KatoPotato · 24/07/2012 12:44

Haha Chessie We will never forget!!

frustratedpants · 24/07/2012 12:48

Odd. I went to doctors and got it fitted. I don't think I'd have bothered if I had to pick it up from the chemist myself.

ChessieFL · 24/07/2012 12:50

Yes, having looked at the size of the box I nearly didn't turn up at the doctors!! I'm sure most of it was just packaging - I didn't look when they unpacked it, I decided I didn't want to know!

Tee2072 · 24/07/2012 12:54

My GP told me twice about the huge box, but I was still goggle eyed when I saw it today!!!

Not only having it inserted on Friday, but having my smear at the same time. So, what's that? 45 minutes in the stirrups? ::shudder::

Probably, I think it took about half an hour to do mirena.

MirandaWest · 25/07/2012 19:41

The GP got mine as well. Am glad I didn't see the size before tbh. I found insertion quite horrible but the overall effect has been great - no periods and no other unwanted side effects.

SkiBumMum · 25/07/2012 19:46

Didn't have to collect mine. It only took 10min max for the whole appointment. My cervix has never been right since those bloody forceps 3.5 years ago!
