I took microgynon years ago, made me depressed, tried again after dcs and did the same. I also had the injection when I was younger, and I bled for 9 months so don't want to do that!

I have very heavy periods so I don't want the copper coil. Planning another baby in the next few years, so really don't want any sort of coil actually.

So, I would love to hear others experiences of the different types of pills out there, thankyou

Hi, my sis had same issue with Microgynon, she has issues with depression generally, she has been happy on the mini pill. Have you discussed that with a doc ever?

PullUpAPew · 14/06/2012 19:34

By happy I mean fine/no side effects, don't want to give the impression the mini pill somehow 'cured' sis' depression!

I was on marvelon which some people think is great, but was awful for me. I had 2-3 week periods and pmt so bad I really thought I was going mad/ getting severe depression.
Doc helpfully said that if marvelon didn't suit me, then prob nothing would. However, she tried me on femodene which I'm now on & it's much better.
Normal (4/5 day) periods, and the mood swings & pmt almost completely gone. I have put on a bit of weight but that might be the wine & chocolate Grin

No I haven't. I stopped taking the pill when I ended a long term relationship and just used condoms (well, actually I wasn't having a lot of sex to be honest!). Then I had two children, using condoms in between pregnancies. Have been in current relationship for 7months so thinking more long term about contraception now. Doctors have never really been involved ifyswim.

I didn't realise my depression was connected to the pill until I stopped taking it. After my second child I tried the pill (microgynon again) after my six week checkup. I felt miserable within days, but I wanted to give it a chance so I finished the whole packet. By the end of it I felt suicidal! Within a day of stopping it I felt fine again.

sparkling wine I think I remember my dad's girlfriend having terrible pmt on that one, and being told by the doctor it was impossible!

I really would like to find a contraception that doesn't make you put on weight. Does it exist?
