Advice needed as a matter of urgency from all you mumsnet oracles! I'm breastfeeding Ds2 who is almost 10 months, just returned to work a fortnight ago so the day time feeds have been really reduced but still feeding all night (co-sleeping) just a little condom leakage, do I need to take the morning after pill and anyone who has while breastfeeding, did it effect your milk?

you definitely need emergency contraception. Levonelle ("morning after pill") is safe if BFing but efficacy reduces rapidly Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare guidance is for all women who request emergency contraception to be fitted with a copper IUD ("emergency coil") this can be done upto 5 days from the unprotected sex or upto day 19 of a 28 days cycle if unprotected sex has occurred more than once in the cycle.

Yes, get the MAP! Don't risk it if another baby isn't on your agenda. I have taken it twice while bf BlushBlush and was advised that it was fine. No noticeable effect on dc either.

I used it while bfing dd. She was 10 months. Caused no problems at all. You need to get it asap really.

Breastfeeding won't be 100% affective as contraception if it is as frequent as you say so I would say yes you need the map. Having said that I have no idea what the effect on breast milk would be, hopefully someone who knows will be along shortly.

You can take the emergency contraceptive pill if breastfeeding.

You can't rely on breastfeeding as a contraceptive, even if your periods haven't returned and especially not where the baby is over 6 months.

Any condom mishaps would be a valid reason for getting EC.

I took it while bf, can't remember how old DD was, maybe a year? Asked the pharmacist to double and triple check it was safe, which he did.
