Depo nightmare, will the mirena be the same?

I have had one shot of depo and had three months of insomnia, mood swings, depression, weight gain, loss of libido, the hairloss has started now and I just generally feel awful. It has really caused problems in our relationship for the first time too because I am so ratty.

Mirena booked for later this month, but I am feeling that I just can't cope with any more insomnia in particular. Will it be more of the same? Tempted to go back to condoms but my periods are really, really painful.

Any thoughts lovelies?

I have been ok so far with mirena (had it about 6 weeks so far) but bled constantly with the depo and put on hundreds of weight. Different hormones have different effects so you may be ok and you may not. The cerazette mini-pill stopped my periods so that could be another option to try too.

I'm the same and have a non hormonal copper coil. This works a treat and stops me from turning into a monster which the pill and the drop did fantastically.

There are pros & cons with every method. My coil 'travelled' & had to be removed. It's not always the easy option.

I actually lost weight on depo, but mood swings were awful, really bad and had z terrible effect on our relationship
I also got pregnant with DD2 on it

After DD2 I had mirena fitted
I got pregnant with DS1 on that

He's 8 days old now and I'm off to GP on tuesday to find out about being sterilised!!

I was fine on mirena tho, light bleeding, no moods or weight gain - apart from the fact that if didn't do what it was supposed to do, it was fine!!!

Blimey. It's such a minefield isn't it?! Babylon - what a time you have had.
I think they would have to cart me off if I had another baby.
