Hi all!!

Thanks :-D

I'm three days post Essure sterilisation (no incisions) and have been completely useless just from the general anesthetic. Really you'd want to plan to have someone with you for the whole week.

Thanks. I was done on Monday and I'm entirely back to normal today. My DP was able to leave me to go to work on Thursday but if we had kids he wouldn't have left me to look after them alone on Thursday or Friday. They tell you not to make any legal decisions for 24 hours afterwards and I can see why - I was really quite out of it and only trust my judgement now. I was terrified of the GA myself but it wasn't too bad - I was out within 10 seconds of being injected. The really weird thing is that when you wake up it feels like no time has passed so I was convinced that I'd only been out for a few seconds and they hadn't done it. Good luck for April - I'm sure it will be fine. I have to wait three months to make sure it's worked like with a vasectomy but the sense of relief that it's been done is amazing.

Sorry for the delayed reply!! Glad everything went well with the op and recovery. Am still worried bout having ga but it will be worth it for me to not have to think bout contraception ever ever again!! :-D

ive just had it done today and the nurse told me to have help with the children for at least a week if i can

midwife99 · 04/04/2012 12:33

I was sterilised yesterday. GA ok although I vomited +++ afterwards but that's just me. Although keyhole I have 3 small wounds with dressings & am really sore today all around abdomen & back. The pain from the trapped gas under my ribs & shoulder was quite nasty yesterday but has gone today. I have been told not to be left alone for a few days or lift anything heavy for 2 weeks & have been signed off work for 2 weeks. I would advise help with kids for a week at least. I'm sure I'll feel much better in a couple of days but definitely bed rest for 48 hours I reckon!

Thanks for replies!
Had it done on the 2nd april. All went really smoothly,i skipped down to theatre haha.
No adverse effects from ga just very tired for a day.oh took over for 2 days and then i got back to it because resting drives me nuts!
Am still suffering with bad period like pain and my stitches are sore/red looking/a bit swollen (sorry tmi) and i also had keyhole. Am going to leave it another couple of days and maybe go to my gp if stitches dont go down. Hope you are recovering well midwife

Oh dear frightened to tell you this but I developed a wound abscess & ended up back in hospital all over the Easter weekend. They had to remove the stitches & drain the abscess & IV antibiotics. Now home on oral antibiotics & hobbling around like an old woman Sad I hope you don't have similar trouble!

foxeeroxee · 12/04/2012 12:47

Oh bloody hell poor you! Thats sounds awful.maybe i should take the pain and weeping stitches more seriously! Hope you recover soon and have had plenty support.

midwife99 · 12/04/2012 14:16

Yes foxxee a trip to the GP would be a good idea. I had a huge red hard lump above one of the wounds (I looked 24 weeks pregnant!) & was in agony so it was more extreme but I'd advise getting your stitches checked anyway. Sad

foxeeroxee · 12/04/2012 15:08

I think i will make an appointment tomorrow just in case...my wound has a small lump underneath and stitches are weeping...bleurgh.definitly doesnt sound amything like the bad time you have had though. Still glad i had it done though!

midwife99 · 12/04/2012 16:47

I needed a good week plus to get over mine. I was shocked. It was like a very very minor cs. No one had prepared me for how bad I was going to feel.
Hope yours goes o.k.

midwife99 · 12/04/2012 18:20

Yes I feel like I did after my caesarean although obviously I have an infection Sad

midwife99 · 16/04/2012 02:39

How are you foxee? Did you need antibiotics? My lump is alot smaller after 10 days of antibiotics & seeing consultant again tomorrow.

foxeeroxee · 16/04/2012 06:12

I couldnt get an appointment with gp!! Luckily though it was fine and stopped looking so 'angry'.
Cant believe the trouble you have had. how have you managed getting on with day to day tasks?
Hope it goes ok with consultant.

midwife99 · 16/04/2012 08:02

Feeling alot better although still get v tired maybe due to the mega antibiotics?? Finish them today so wondering what will happen to the remaining lump! Day to day tasks ok but can't lift anything heavy
eg 2 year old bruiser DD!!

foxeeroxee · 16/04/2012 10:18

Well hopefully the lump will disappear on its own now ypu have finished the antibiotics.
Its horrible struggling to hold your dc isnt it? I couldnt lift any of them for a couple of days even ds2 whos only 4month old
ds1 and dd thought id fallen out with them!! Confused

OP posts:
midwife99 · 16/04/2012 15:28

Saw the consultant & he said not to worry - the remaining lump is fibrous tissue which will take at least 8 weeks to disappear. So hopefully I can get back to normal soon! Hope you do too!!

foxeeroxee · 16/04/2012 16:47

Thankyou! Im pretty much ok now. Hope you feel better soon!Good news from thr consultant.

Hi! I was wondering if I am alone in this. I had an ablation, a hisceroscopy and a laparoscopy sterilisation on the 14th (10 days ago.)
I am still finding it hard to get going. Everything i have read has everyone bouncing back after their sterilisation within a week. I am still no more than 70% better and although my tummy is flattish in the morning it is swollen to look like I am 5 months pregnant by late afternoon. I am not used to feeling so tired and off colour for this length of time. Is it just me or is there anyone else out there who has found their recovery difficult?

TheFuzz · 25/10/2015 23:40

Have you been back to your GP. Like with any op recovery can take time

Ilovemy4kids · 22/07/2017 23:28

I got sterilised 5 month ago using the clips, and since then I've not had 1 period should I be worried... not even a spotting
