How far out should the mirena strings be?

I had the mirena put in yesterday and the gp very helpfully told me after that she's only done a few of these and she's referred me for an urgent scan to see if it's in the right place!!! I felt tonight and the strings are sticking out of me a bit. Is that normal? I also feel really windy and tender in my abdomen. Is that normal?

Where are the strings sticking out of?! They should be inside your vagina and sticking out of your cervix by a couple of cm.

I can feel the ends of the strings if I put my finger on my vagina, not in.

Did the gp give you an info leaflet?? It usually has all the advice you need in it,

I have to insert my fingers to feel the strings

Sounds like they are either a bit too long and need trimming or it's shifted :-(

Yes you can feel the thread just sticking out of your cervix not much just a few centimetres you are advised to check once a month, crampy pain and a little bit of spotting are normal for a day or two after havin it fitted.

Oh I see you said just inside your vagina, then the strings too long or as other poster said it has moved, but the gp should of checked the length of the strings and they can be snipped off so that they aren't too long, I would phone surgery for advice on the morning.

It couldn't be stuck somewhere other than my uterus can it?
