Arrrrgh! My coil is lost!!!

I went to docs tonight to have it replaced. She couldn't find the threads:(

I have now been booked for an ultrasound to see if they can fund I and 'hook it out' as the doc casually said ( I crossed my legs at this point and nearly fainted- She had been rooting round down there for a good fifteen mins......)

Just digesting this then my sister told me that hers got 'lost ' too and she had to have a general anaesthetic to get it out!!!!!

FGS....Is this right? Has it happened to anyone else please?

I doubt the coil itself as gone anywhere, it'll just be that the threads have retracted back up inside the cervical os and can't be reached to remove it.

The ultrasound will check that the coil itself hasn't come out or migrated, then arrangements made for its removal - depending where it is and how high the threads are will depend on how it can be removed.

hi OP, exact same situation here, so far a nurse and a GP have looked for mine. My scan is on Wednesday - I have to not eat for 6 hours before it (!) and have a full bladder. The scan will hopefully locate it then I will be booked in at the hospital for it to be removed.
My Dr mentioned about having an anesthetic for the removal (though I would have thought it would be a local one not general).
I must admit I have never checked my strings - so it may have been AWOL for some time :) considering how uncomfortable it was when the nurse was looking for it I'm pretty glad to be having anesthesia! I want mine taken out to TTC, after that I will think twice about another coil.
I'll come back and tell you about the scan assuming yours isn't before Wednesday?

Yes it Is common & happened to me at the age of 32 after having it in for 3 yrs. went to the drs as I was having heavier periods and told"oh the coil hasn't been working then, we'll put you on the pill and get it removed". That's when trouble started as they couldn't find it eventually found it hidden in a cavity in my womb & after 9mths from first appt & various checks had it removed under general. I tried to make so many excuses on the day of the op. Had a cold- don't worry you'll have a tube down your throat, I'm on my period- even better to get it out apparently. But in the end everything went fine, was back home same afternoon & felt no different 2 days after. As they say better out then in! The thing that most annoyed me was one specialist who was convinced she could get it out herself with no pain relief. The screaming put an WBC to that idea. I'd say your better off under general even though it's a scary thought.

Ok tiddlymum - fairly dull so far. Scan was fine, coil was there in the right place so strings have just got lost by going up inside the womb. So I will now be booked in for removal. Hopefully sooner rather than later :) hope you finds yours too!

I have finally got referral letter for coil search and rescue. A flipping month!!! Been told to take precautions- I must be dense because I had to ask her what she meant (blush)

This is why I'm Too Afraid to have a coil! Among other reasons!

You know what fluffs- its been brilliant I have had two over past 10 years, no probs. And I will have another when they have located this bugger. I will just make sure they attach a sturdy rope :))
