I had a mirena fitted 5 mths ago. Neither me or xp could find the strings told the doc at 6 weeks she checked and said they were there.

Am I the only one that can't find the strings themself?

How long does it take to settle periods? I've had less heavy periods but they last longer including a few days of yucky brown discharge and lots of crampy period pains which get worse each month. I never used to suffer from period pains before! So right now I'm not feeling to happy with the coil will it get better?

Lots of people can't feel the strings..if your GP or nurse has seen them, that's fine!

Sometimes you can get a (non-sexually transmitted) mild infection associated with the coil...getting a swab done at your local surgery can check for this....worth doing even if you had swabs done prior to insertion.

Have a look on the NHSchoices website too

Ok I will do thank you.

Is it normal to have worse period pains than ever before?

I don't think it's unheard of.
Have you got a 'helpline' number on the card you should have been issued at the time of insertion..they're worth a try too.

I have never been able to feel my strings - but am pretty sure they are doing what they should be.

I think periods can be completely different for different people - I don't get them although have some brown spotting type blood occasionally. Have PMT type stuff a day or so before this happens sometimes. Have had some excrutiating pains occasionally (doubling up in pain etc) but that is v rare for me luckily.
