Is this normal with the copper coil?

I had my copper coil fitted recently and I am now having my first period.

The first 4/5 days was normal bleeding but with sharp pains instead of the normal aching. But now the bleeding has got really heavy and I am currently changing a super tampon in 2
hours.! Sorry if that's TMI.

Does this sound normal? And will it settle down?

Sadly this is a vey well known side effect of the copper coil. I also found that my periods were more painful and very very heavy. Is there any reason you didn't choose the mirena coil? I have one now and my periods are very light and short. Maybe you could change it?

I had the marina coil before and after that I found out I had polycycistic ovaries which I think was caused by the hormones in the coil, that's why I've now changed to to the copper coil, also I don't think hormones work well with my body Sad

How long did you keep yours in? As I'm hoping it will settle with time.

I've done the same as you, gone from a mirena to a copper coil, hormones are just not good for me! I has heavy bleeds at first but they settled within a couple of months and tbh my periods aren't that heavy at all now. Hope it helps, all the best!

I kept mine in for 6months, nothing changed during that time, but maybe it does for some, as Ensign has said! So maybe give it a few months?

I've had mine for 4 years now. I started with more pain and heavy bleeding too.
Now I get a few twingy cramps, dull aches down my legs and the first few days are heavy, tailing off for the last 3 or so days.

I had the copper coil fitted in July. I ended up bleeding constantly for almost 6 months! I preservired & it finally stopped just before Christmas & 4 weeks later I had the most hurrendous period. It lasted for 10 days 2 of which were unbearable 4 days were heavy and the rest of the time got lighter every day till it stopped. I have since had another which lasted 7 days, no cramping at all & no heavier than they were pre coil. I'm glad I stuck with it, it does get better. Hth
