Hi

I had no break last month due to stomach bug and again it has happened again with an tummy bug/ food poisoning.

Is it safe to carry on without another break?

Thanks

I never take a break (awaits flaming). I have a yearly check nurse said it's fine for me to do that.

KateShmate · 17/01/2012 20:25

I agree with brightermorning - my GP admitted that she didnt really know the 'ins and outs' of pills - just when to prescribe them; she booked me an appt to see a nurse that knew all about them - she said its absolutely fine and to carry on not-taking-a break.
Was only on it for about a year and a few months, then moved onto Cerazette

QueenStromba · 17/01/2012 21:25

The only reason for the break is because the people who developed the pill decided that women like having periods.

ChablisLover · 18/01/2012 07:53

Bet you the people who decided on the break were men! Hate periods.

Thanks for all the replies

I haven't had a break in over two years due to endometriosis. There is no need whatsoever to have a break unless you have a reason to want to see bleeding. thats what my GP and hospital consultant have told me.

I asked if there was any need for me to take a break and they said absolutely not. Its so much easier without one :)

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 20/01/2012 22:44

Does it not lead to break through bleeding though?

TooMuchInLove · 21/01/2012 16:23

Maybe every now and again but not really.
The pill stops you from ovulating so I can only assume it stops your womb lining building up so it won't 'she'd ! Although I am clearly no doctor haha very limited knowledge on the female body despite being one

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 21/01/2012 22:47

Tee hee!
Out of interest does anyone else just keep taking the pill without breaks? Any thoughs on Yasmin?

Sidge · 21/01/2012 22:51

In theory you can run packets together indefinitely but IME some women tend to get breakthrough bleeding the more packets you back-to-back.

BellaBoo85 · 21/01/2012 22:51

Went for my pill check Thursday. It's fine not to have a break.
I get a little break through bleeding but it doesn't happen half as much as if I had to have a period every month.
I think the pill is possibly one of the best things ever invented!!

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 22/01/2012 20:52

Thanks ladies, my GP is very pro the mirena......something tells me to stay on the pill....

EllenandBump · 22/01/2012 21:07

I have an impant in my arm, which i find easier than the pill as i have no need to remember to take it, just when its due for renewal (just after my birthday!) luckily.

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 22/01/2012 22:17

Is it linked to weight gain Ellen?

Kayzr · 22/01/2012 22:19

I used to take 2 packs in a row and then have a break. If I ever took 3 in a row then I would get a breakthrough bleed. But my best friend who was on the same pill never had breaks. So try it and see. Smile

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 22/01/2012 22:25

Did you take Yasmin Kayzr? What do you use now?

EllenandBump · 22/01/2012 23:01

Trying to be mary poppins I think all hormonal contraceptives can be linked with weight gain. However i am having no problems losing weight atm. Just a healthy diet and seeming to lose it steadily, rather than in big chunks but i have read that losing it like that is a substainable weight loss.

Kayzr · 23/01/2012 03:59

It was logynon. I don't use anything now as I'm pregnant.

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 23/01/2012 04:09

I hardly ever had a break and never had bleeding when doing it.

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 23/01/2012 22:27

Congratulations Kayzr :)
Thanks ladies x
