I am currently 15wks pg with DC4, who is intended to be our last and DH and I have discussed him having the snip after baby arrives. How soon after the birth of a child will the Drs 'do' him - is there a 'cooling off period' in case we have a moment of insanity think about having any more?

I was on the implanon implant before DC and had no problems with it so I'm wondering about using that initially till the hormones calm down, but I'm not keen on what I've read about the new version - is it a replacement or could I still request implanon fitted soon after birth.

I'm not keen on the idea of the coil - please feel free to share happy stories and try to convert me [grin[, or are there any other ideas I haven't thought about? Don't trust myself to remember to take a daily pill Blush

My ex husband had the snip whilst I was pregnant. I was sure that my last son was definatley my last child regardless if anything happened. My dd [23] has the depo jab which means she doesn't have periods and has the jab every 3 months in her bum. I wish that had been available to me when the children were small.

The new version of implanon is exactly the same - only the fitting device (and the name) have changed.

I had the injection from 1999 ? 2002 then went on the pill, had DS 2006, pill, had DD 2009, pill until Jan this year, we started using condoms until July when DH went away (with work for 4 months) DH has had the Consultation for the snip and his appointment is next month, yesterday i went and got the injection again and will have them until DH gets the all clear after the snip. DH doesnt know about the injection, i thought it would be a nice suprise for him when he gets back next Friday.
I was told by the midwife after having DD that DH couldnt have the snip until DD was 6 months, its taken DH the rest of the time to get the courage up to go and see about it.
