Side effect of Cerazette pill

Has anyone suffered with awful anxiety on this? 1 month in and the past few days I'm feeling very anxious and cannot cope at all with the kids. Today I had an urge to drive my car into the central reservation of motorway. Shock. Suffice to say I'm coming off it but wondering whether anyone else experienced similar as concerned it might not be the Cerazette.

I got very anxious and depressed (amongst other things) on the implant which is basically the exact same form of progesterone as Cerazette. I found this out after my GP switched my pill to Cerazette and I started having the same side effects that I got with the implant so googled it. The good news is that you'll feel better within 3-4 days of not taking it.

Thanks Queen - can you remember how long after taking it the symptoms started?

It took me about two weeks to notice with the implant and six days with Cerazette because I'd had the symptoms before. I tend to react very quickly if a pill doesn't agree with me though.

ThatllDoPig · 14/09/2011 19:47

Do a search on here and you will find many more stories! I was SO relieved to read them as I was feeling the same. Out of control and scary. I've come off it now, and getting better.

babe1982 · 11/01/2012 23:31

Yea I've beeen feeling like this very anxious and panicky and depressed like I've lost my confidence its strange as I was on it a few years ago and I was fine on it then but now I'm onit again I feel strange and I'm late for my period too

TheLightPassenger · 12/01/2012 10:35

I'm fine on cerazette, but had bad problems mentally when on another mini-pill, micronor, I had fortnightly periods and PMT bad as clinical depression. I was much better as soon as I stopped the micronor (I would never have depo or implant or mirena, because of this as it's not as easy as stopping taking a pill)

I think you have all just saved my sanity. Was looking for info on side effects of is pill because in the 3 weeks I have been taking it I have had such huge mood swings: from irritable bitch from hell to panic stricken, lay on the bed sobbing for "no reason". I am also now having the period from hell with backache, cramps, very heavy blood loss and nothing like my usual 3 days/blink and you'll miss it experience.

Guess I need to come off it then?

Northumberlandlass · 20/02/2012 12:58

Hey Ujjayi, I was exactly the same as you. Although on GP advice I took it for 3 months - thankfully my friends realised I was acting unusally and didn't desert me (I was a complete bitch). I became v paranoid as well, really violent mood swings.

I came off it and thankfully they let me start taking the combined pill again. I'm waiting for consulation now to be sterilised as I can't take the combined pill for much longer and my child bearing days are over.

vitaminC · 20/02/2012 14:26

I started taking Cérazette around 18 months ago (due to severe anaemia from haemorragic periods, which were apparently due to a progesterone deficiency!) and I became suicidal for the first 2 weeks, which is very out of character for me!

I was considering going back to my dr, but decided first to change the time of day when I took the pills to last thing at night, right before I switched the light off to sleep and I've been fine since then. In fact I finally felt like me again, for the first time in over a year!

I did stop them for a month, recently, to see how I felt without them and ended up going back on because I broke out in terrible acne from withdrawal :(

ujjayi · 23/02/2012 21:38

Northumberlandlass glad things are better for you now. I took the last pill on Saturday and I am just starting to feel something close to normal again. I am really shocked at how quickly those awful feelings came on after starting to take it.

I didn't bother going back to GP to check if it was ok. I intend to see her at some point soon but for now I am just so relieved that those feelings have disappeared.

vitaminC that is interesting that time of taking them made a difference. I wonder why that might be?

brighthair · 25/02/2012 23:52

I came off it in January. Feel more clear headed and anxiety is less. I had s fortnight of awful side effects coming off it and haven't had a proper period. Today my period started - no pain, or cramps. V odd ad I originally went on it due to problems with periods

Northumberlandlass · 28/02/2012 12:59

Ujjay, I felt the effects quite quickly after I started taking it and thankfully they went away equally as fast!
I hope you feel back to normal soon and find another contraception that suits.

x

I had problems on cezerette too had very bad pains in my legs and arms and felt depressed and anxiety and also put a lot of weight on is there any other mini pills out there

Lozislovely · 16/03/2012 21:15

I've just switched from the mirena coil to cerazette! Had the coil taken out after 18 months of hell with cramps and spotting.

I suffer from anxiety and have been on Citalopram for some years.

Two weeks on cerazette and so far so good, though I have been feeling slightly more anxious this week though have been suffering with a flu type virus.

Funny how drugs affect people differently. Fingers crossed to everyone that you'll find your solution and thanks for the warnings of potential side effects as at least I know what to look out for!!!

FluffyBunnyWunnyMummyKins · 16/03/2012 21:19

Me! Started taking it two months ago have bled on and off since, had the most nervy, paranoid thoughts and feel as though I am putting on weight.

Have finished bring now so might go and ask for the combined pill again.

Just going to catch up on the rest of the thread...

babe1982 · 17/03/2012 03:37

Yeah I put on a lot of weight when I was on cezerette and felt like a total psycho most of the time but as I have raynuards and smoke I carnt go on the combined pill god I wish us ladys had it easier I'm now looking into the coil or another type of mini pill as anyone eles had swelling in there legs on cezerette

ModdedMummy · 17/03/2012 23:02

I came off Cerazette around three weeks ago (moved from combined pill due to an oncoming stroke). In the three months I was on it, I put on 6kg and went all kinds of weird; I was jittery and anxious a lot of the time, and constantly hungry and desperate to graze the rest of the time.

Glad I'm rid of all pills now, they all seem to have one hellish side-effect or another.

norvegicus · 24/03/2012 21:22

I had no idea. Ive got the implant + ive been wondering if my extreme tiredness + weight gain + stressiness could be due to anything other than motherhood. I think i'll go see the doc. Many thanks ladies, you've opened my eyes!
