Implant - any positive stories?

My body spat out the mirena! So I was going to give the implant (implanon or whatever) a shot. However all I hear are horror stories. Any good ones?

I loved mine. Called 'Nexplanon' now because the insertion device has been changed. The actual implant is the same.

Discreet.
Next to no bleeds (I had no periods at all, very occasional spotting only)
No side-effects I noticed.
Fertility returned really quickly (conceived DS3 2 months after removal )

I'd go for it again should the need arise.

I know you want positive stories but I feel that I should tell mine. Within about 3 or 4 days I completely lost my sex drive and my short term memory so that I was like a 70 year old with Alzheimers. I was also all over the place emotionally. I had mine out after 24 days which as far as I can tell is some sort of record. You'll probably be ok but just make sure to look out for the bad side effects.

I had no problems with mine. I had fewer periods, though they were longer but I didn't find that a problem (mooncup).
No loss of sex drive when in a relationship.
I've since been sterilised, but I'd have one again if I hadn't.
It's trial and error though as to what suits. I heard great things about the mirena, so I got one, and got pregnant.

I'd recommend it to anyone. You don't need to think about it once it is in. Much more convenient than the pill.

It's great! I fell pregnant five times on the pill so couldn't use then anymore, my aunt suggested the implant and I've never looked back, had no side effects, no bleeding - brilliant!

The first day after having mine I cried all day for no reason, The first month was a bit wobbly emotionally, but after then it's settled right down and is fine now, and no periods just a bit of spotting.

I nearly killed OH! Okay not literally but you see my point, I was VERY moody, constantly PMS'ing pretty much, not saying that will happen to you that was just my experience

I had one of the first ones around 10 (?) years ago. Kept it for 3 years, then had a second. Would have had a third but was starting to get early peri-menopausal so wanted to let my body sort itself out without additional hormones.

Yes, it did lead to excessive bleeding to start with, but that eventually sorted itself out and later I bled very little. No moodiness or other problems.

Give it a go.

Implanon worked really well for me. I still had periods and they were a bit wonky at first but they soon settled down. It was just nice to be able to think "right, that's contraception sorted for three years" and forget about it.

Thankyou :-D That's enough to give me reason to try it out. I get it put in on Tuesday. I'm actually more worried about how my skin will react locally to it as I have very sensitive skin and eczema.

Implanon worked for me..in that I had almost continuous bleeding for months and months on end and was so fed up with that, the last thing I felt like was having sex! I would double check before you go ahead what the current policies are on removal. I had to demand that mine was removed in the end, as the doctor insisted I keep it until the end of its viability. It turned out to all be rather stressful.

wow, i was just going to post a thread titled ive just had my implanon out and it was one of the best things ive ever done! (well ok not quite but you get the picture). had it out two weeks ago as i was bleeding constantly for two months and on and off every other week for a few days since January. since it coming out the bleeding has stopped but also drive has come back and also not as moody, oh and also my huge appetite has disappeared and ive already lost a couple of pounds! these last few things i had put down to postnatal life iyswim, i had no idea it was the implanon and now i feel so robbed these last few months!

that's just my experience, i had it in 10 months, you've had some positive experiences here too (they're the first ive ever read online though- but then that could be that people don't always talk about positive stories but do about negative etc etc). i think canttreachmytoes has good advice about finding out about removal policies if you're in a 'give it a try' frame of mind. my gp said most places wont remove it until youve given it six months but she said she is more relaxed and insists on three months instead.

You can go to any walk in family planning clinic to have it taken out, they probably wont even ask you how long you've had it. Mine screwed with my head straight away so about two weeks in I called my surgery to make an appointment to have it removed and was told that the next appointment was in about 10 days so I called around and found a family planning clinic that was able to do it for me. I sat outside of the clinic before they even opened and they took it out for me without question.
