Cerazette - is it making me fat?

This is a difficult one -

I started taking cerazette 2 months ago. First month was fine, I didn't put on any weight, had a normal period etc etc

Im coming towards the end of my second month and I've suddenly realised a weight increase of 6lbs. This seemed to come on over the space of 2 weeks. Now to be fair I have been eating loads of junk. The thing is, I'm one of those lucky people that CAN eat junk and NOT put on weight so I've not been eating that much more than I normally "get away with" iyswim?

Anyway I thought "fairs fair" and I put myself on a diet. I'm also one of those lucky people who loses weight without fail once on a diet. This time however, it's not shifting.

I started the pill at 10st 6lbs. Last week I weighed 10st 12lbs. I've had a really good week, eating healthy etc and I stand on the scales this morning expecting to be around 10st 10lbs (which would normally happen with me) and I'm mortified to see the scales telling me I'm 10st 11lbs and 3/4!!!

I can only assume it's the pill?? or has my years of unhealthy eating finally caught up with me?

I'm on it. I don't think it has given me a weight gain. I have gained weight but I think from sertraline

Old post I know but I have been taking cerezette since March 2018 post second baby. I have put 2 stone on, struggle to lose weight and no sex drive at all (not helped by a 2yr old who doesn’t sleep well so I’m exhausted). I really want to come off cerezette but don’t know what else to do. I’m considering NAtural Family Planning but not sure if I’ll be able to get on top of it

I want to try natural too. Really hate the pill

Consider buying a Tempdrop, it's supposed to make tracking your cycle a lot easier.

Hormonal contraception can have a lot of side effects. Best option if family is complete is vasectomy or sterilisation. Personally I use condoms - not willing to pump synthetic hormones into my body anymore. I do sometimes wonder if poor mental health and people being more overweight these days could be linked in women to contraception. But it’s not really convenient to big pharma and blokes if we start asking these questions. Wish they’d make the cap more available again.

I’m so shocked to read these posts as I was wondering what the hell was going on with my body!!!! I’ve been taking this pill for about 4 months. Weight has ballooned! My belly was so fat and stuck out!!!! Boobs went massive. I look bloated. Came off it a few days ago basically after reading f these posts! Thank you all so much

Wondering if anyone can help. I was a size 10-12 from age 17 to age 28 when I was on the normal pill. At age 28 I was put on the mini pill because of migraines with aura that made me high risk for stroke. Despite my eating and exercise habits remaining as they had always been, my weight rocketed and I put on 2 stone between age 28 and now (age 35) which I have struggled to get rid of. Reading all these comments I think it could probably be the cerazette as I have the bloated pregnant looking tummy etc. My husband has recently said he’d be willing to have a vasectomy so I can come off the pill entirely which I’m happy about, but other than the weight gain I’ve had no other side effects of cerazette (my moods are balanced, I don’t get spots or acne and my periods have gone, which I love). I’m worried whether some weight gain is enough of a reason to put my husband through a vasectomy and worried about what my periods will be like if I stop using the pill. I haven’t had proper periods since before I went in the pill at 17 and I’m worried they’ll be heavy and give me craps and side effects like spots, sore boobs and mood swings. I’m just wondering if anyone else who came off the pill saw a big reduction in weight and was it harder having ‘natural’ periods than when on the pill? Trying to weigh up the pros and cons because I don’t want my husband to have a vasectomy and I come off the pill, don’t lose the excess weight and have horrible periods every month with moodswings and bloating, acne, cramps etc and then wish I’d just stayed on the cerazette. Can anyone give any insight?

Hi KBBB! Very happy to see a recent message about cerazette on here 🙂
Sorry to hear about your issues but happy to hear the pill is working for you despite weight gain.
I am 42 and no kids, have had life long gyne problems. Came off the pill when I was 19/20 as had ovary cysts and they didnt help. All OK now. At about 30 I went on cerazette for a year, could lose weight (hard work, but at least didnt gain) and stayed the same shape. But came off it to give periods a chance and see how they were. Long story short, went back on cerazette in September last year as I have severe physical PMDD/PMS, and this time round it caused terrible migraines (I was put on cerazette as I have suffered from migraines since a child and apparently less likely to cause headaches, and I never suffered 10 or so years ago on pill) . But like you with now taking this pill, I managed 2 weeks in September but had to come off it because Id started a new job and could not function with the pain. But my PMDD has got worse and worse (like having full on flu for 1 week a month then heavy painful period). So I went back on it 10 days ago, migraines started again the weekend. Have to take triptans. I do not weigh myself anymore as I had massive (7mth size gestation) for a few years until last year when I had an abdominal myomectomy to remove them (and as the surgeon warned me, the fibroids have not been the cause of migraines, PMDD or super heavy periods unfortunately!) and Id rather go by how my fitted clothes look and feel as aware that he pill does not cause fat gain (maybe....) but water retention hence actual lb weight gain. Because of the op and fibroids I look like I have had triplet elephants, so no idea if bloated anyway! But just a shame I am suffering like you when I didnt before... do you think it is age? I hope you're well!
