Mirena coil advice

taylor74 · 19/05/2011 16:23

I'm currently on Depo but as it increases your weight I've been advised by the Dr to try the coil. I can't take the pill or mini pill as I take medication of epilepsy. So my Tegretol reduces the effects of the pill.
I'm ok about having a coil fitted but having discussed it with hubby he's worried he will feel it or even dislodge it. I've not a clue about them so any advise would really help.

I've had the mirena for 3 years and neither I nore Dh have ever felt it at all, I wish I had it years ago!

The nurse did tell me she had seen pictures of a willy with red prick marks all over it from where the ends of the strings had been poking the Dh (dont tell your DH that one) - strings too long, they can be trimmed IF you get this issue, but an experienced fitter will know what they are doing

Having it put in and the annual check is no more tricky/uncomfy than a smear test

Thanks for that, that's a great help, I've just been hearing horror stories.

I love my mirena. I'm on my second one and haven't had a period for 7 years. :D DH can't tell that it's there and his willy can't dislodge it, cos it's through the cervix and only the wires poke down.

I'm a horror story I'm afraid.

Made me put on a ton of weight.

Made me grumpy and miserable.

Spotty.

No sex drive (and I mean absolutely ZERO)

Oh and my boobs were full of milk (TMI I know) - and I had no babies and was not BF.

Prole - I had terrible excema on it and I've none now.

I was very depressed when on it, but towards the end my marriage was also falling apart so it was all linked.

Oh yes - and I lost 2 dress sizes in 2 weeks after it came out

But it was sold to me as this miracle answer to heavy periods, won't know it's there, no side effects and it really wasn't like that at all.

taylor74 · 19/05/2011 20:18

There was me thinking it would be side effect free. The only reason I'm
coming off Depo is cause of the weight I put on because of it. The Dr today never said anything about this. So glad I came and asked all your advise on here. I already suffer depression so taking this wouldn't be a good move and the Dr as my records too.
Still unsure what to do. Me and my DH are still taking about it.
He did offer to have an implant if there was one, bless x

If you try the mirena and it doesn't suit, you can have it removed and it doesn't take long for your body to settle back to normal.
