This is the first thread I've started. Be gentle with me :) At the moment I'm still on the pill (Femodene) which I find great, never had any side effects, I find remembering to take it ok (mostly). I'm 35 and I've been on it for nearly 18 years, apart from before and during having my DDs of course. My doctor thinks it's ok for me to keep taking it, for now anyway.

I have looked into the Mirena coil, just as it feels slightly more permanent than the pill and there isn't that hassle of remembering to take a pill, plus fewer hormones going into your system. BUT having read so much negative stuff about it I am less then enthusiastic. It seems to contain the same ingredients as the pill Microgynon, which made me all teary, angry and generally depressed when I tried it for a few months at University. Plus I had loads of breakthrough bleeding which was really inconvenient. I feel I'm constantly battling with mild depression anyway so the last thing I'd need is something that would make it worse.

Sterilization seems a bit drastic and final and I'm sure comes with it's own side effects. My OH is 40 and I don't think I could ask him to have a vasectomy - you never know what might happen in the future though we are very happy with just the two children.

Should I just stick with the pill, or is there anything else I should consider?

I'm going for the hormone free 'normal' coil.

it's going in on the 15th so i can't say how it is yet. I generally have ok periods so i'm not too worried if they get a bit heavier.

I'm sick to death of hormonal contraception. When i came off the pill to have dd i got my personality back. i didn't realise it was missing before that Hmm

I've had 2 mirenas and have found them great, no periods, no pmt, no weight gain

I love it

The hormone free coil sounds like something to look into. Would I go back to being my 16 y o self? Scary thought :)
