Implanon side effects

I had Implanon put in last September and all was ok at first apart from soreness in my arm.

However I got my first period 5/6 weeks ago and I haven't stopped bleeding. I had dropped down to 1 breastfeed a day which is when my period had come back with my previous 2 children but it has never lasted so long.

Is there anything I can do about it or is it just one of implanon's side effects and will stop soon. It isn't like a heavy period but more than spotting- bit of a pain to be lasting so long. Normally period are really light and short (about 4-5 days)

I would appreciate advice from any with knowledge or exprience of Implanon.

Hi there,

I saw the doctor today about having the Implanon fitted. My DS is 11 weeks old and I am also breastfeeding. The doctor warned me before I go ahead and have it fitted that 30% of women have interim spotting for 6 months and some for as long as a year after the implant is fitted. Apparently lots of women aren't told this and when it happens they go back and have it removed as they can't deal with the constant on/off spotting.

I didn't have it done today and will think it over before I decide. I can do without being 'on' all the time Smile

Hope that helps a bit

I had really erratic period all the time with Implanon - none for four months, then constant for four weeks, off for a week, back on again etc etc.

After 18 months I gave up and asked them to take it out.

Thanks for the info.
Have been raeading some of the other threads about Implanon and think I may be suffering from other side effects as well. Thinking of having it taken out and tryin something non-hormonal.
