Mirena Coil replacement - day off work?

I've had my Mirena coil for nearly 5 years, I've been happy with it (no periods Smile) so am planning to have it replaced.

I found having it fitted incredibily painful, I'm hoping I was just unlucky but I'm thinking of going to the Family Planning Clinic this time, instead of the local hospital as they should be more experienced.

My question is - is it acceptable to ask for a day off work? I don't really want to tell my (male) boss what I'm getting done, but should I say it's a medical procedure? Confused

Not keen to use up annual leave.

I guess I could try for an afternoon appointment so would only need a half day.

check what your work policy is re routine medical appointments. I think with ours they expect you to make up the time. But it won't take all day, will it? I'd go for a late afternoon appt personally and just leave early.

I think we get time off for the doctor but up to 1.5 hours - the FPC isn't near work so would probably need longer

I guess if I'm honest I feel a bit nervous about it, after my previous experience, and would prefer not to wait all day for it!

Personally I had a nasty time when mine was put in. I bled like a bastard for 24 hours and was curled up in half with cramps.

It's due to be replaced this February and I was going to book it in for my day off for that very reason.

Either that or I might have a sex change and not have to bother with the poxy thing at all.

I would tell your male boss. If he's a good bloke he will understand. If not he will get all flustered and not want to hear about it and give you the time off to avoid talking about it.
