Dh and I were very stupid last night and had unprotected drunken sex, we both can't remember if we finished or not. Has anyone used the MAP and were there any side effects? I should go and get it today? We have 2 dc's a 3rd wouldn't be the end of the world though.

I know the medical websites I've read have said morning after pill has no proven long-term side effects, and that you can go about your day as normal after taking it. I've heard rumour, but don't know if it's myth, that the pill can cause problems like infertility, or increased risk of miscarriages in the future. But I know friends who've taken it say it's forced period cramps and even bleeding before, one said she definitely wouldn't have been able to function as normal for the rest of the day and had to have a day off work.

How much are you willing to gamble though, that's the question? :)

I've taken the MAP and had no side effects. I've actually taken it several times Blush the one they give you now has less side effects than the old one.

I haven't noticed any side effects any of the times I've taken it. It had no effect on my periods and I have got pregnant (when I wanted to) since.

It's not ideal to be taking it regularly, but as a one off is far less risky to your health than a pregnancy.

Hi Levonell 2 is avialable from A&E , walk in clinics, family planning clinics and over the counter in pharmacies. It is progesterone only and causes very few side - effects - I have never heard of it being linked with infertility nor miscarriages and cannot think why it would. It is most effective taken as soon after unprotected intercourse as possible. Hope this helps.

I had to get it this month after the condom split - something I'd always associated with teenagers Blush It is only progesterone which I didn't know until I got it from the pharmacy, the only thing he warned me was that my period might be a little screwed up this month, but so far it's been fine.

I just nipped out to the chemist to get it, realised that we are quite happy with the 2 dc's we've got. Hopefully won't have any of the side affects, although the headache may be the wine from last night.
DH is booking to see about a vasectomy now Grin

The only side effect I had after taking a MAP was still ending up pregnant!
