I'm due to have this, and are wondering about other peoples experiences. After reading about the possible side effects, I'm a bit nervous.

Is that the in the arm one?

I have it. The pill failed me within 3 months of having sex only at weekends (DS!), but I've had my implant for just over a year & still nothing. That's the main thing for me.

I had a fair bit of bleeding at first (non-stop), but they gave me the pill for 3 months in addition & it completely sorted it out. I still bleed, but not quite as much as before.

I don't think I've had any other side effects. Based on my experience, I'd recommend it.

I had it and for two years I thought it was great, no periods, but spent the last year with very irregular bleeding and awful awful PMT that I never recognised because it was so irregular. Also, once I had it removed to TTC I suddenly had a proper libido for the first time since I started using hormonal contraception about 10 years previously. But if you've been on the pill with no trouble then that probably won't be a problem for you.

yes in the arm one.

I am worried about continual bleeding as I have very regular periods at the moment. I am just hope i'm a lucky one who gets no bleeding at all.

Still swithering whether to have it or not

Have had it for nearly two years now and no problems. Have no bleeding at all which is a little disconcerting at times but am glad I had it. Hth.

I had it 2 years no probs then started bleeding non stop spotting for a year, gave me cerazette to take as well, sorted it for a short time, had it changed still didnt change a thing!! But otherwise was good, excellent contraception cos u cant have sex!! FPC told me to use condoms!! Yuk no thanks!

I've used this for 10 years, we plan to continue using it until H gets the snip (within the next 3 or 4 years, we have made the firm decision to not have kids together and I wish to be rid of hormones as soon as this one runs out).

Greenshadow · 14/09/2010 16:15

Had it several years ago when it was still new. Loved it so much went on to have a second one, so had them for 6 years all together.

Only bad point was the initial bleeding.

At times it was more on than off. Couldn't give blood as my blood count was too low (but then I always was quite boarderline anyway). But it sorted itself out and eventually was the opposite - hardly any periods for months.

Stopped using them now as getting menopausal and wanted to know exactly what my body is doing without the influence of hormones.

But definitely recommend.

woops that should have read "decision to not have anny MORE kids together" - still think implanon is the best thing ever. we still use condoms too just to be extra safe, but basically i like implanon because it's such a low risk of USER ERROR once it's been put in. that's the biggest draw for me (also the coil too i guess, but now that we're considering permanent options like steralisation/vasectomy then that's a bit moot now).

Good luck!

i had mine in for 18 months after my lil boy and it was great 0 periods after the 1st 3 months. Have just hd it out to ttc so we shal see how much it has/hasnt messed with my body....

however it did kill my sex drive!

good luck xxx
