practising gymnastics !

I have a dd of 5 who has been doing gymnastics for about a year and a half. She does recreational classes and while I don't want her to get into a squad and spend hours and hours doing it (not yet anyway) she clearly has a bit of an aptitude for it.She does it once a week for an hour and a half. The problem is that she is really really keen and practises so much at home on her own and I am beginning to think that it is making her develop bad habits. She does something very neatly and precisely in class but by the end of the week of 'practising it' she does it a lot stronger but much more sloppily
Should I stop her from practising and try and see whether the council would let her do a second class mid week (they have a long waiting list, but are very encouraging)and also don't really want her to be doing too much after school as she is still in reception and also does rainbow and swimming
Any tips from people in the know re practice?

It'll make no odds at that age....let her practice....especially conditioning and flexibility excercises. Get her into a club if you think she has aptitude but at this age enthusiasm and enjoyment is important.

I don't think you can stop them.

My DD is 6, is in the pre squad classes, trains for 6 1/2 hours a week, so you'd think she'd do enough right? Wrong! She does gymnastics everywhere, and I've even caught her doing a roundoff in the aisle in the supermarket. When I shouted at her for doing it, she hadn't even realised she done it! If they've got the bug, I don't think there is any stopping them.

The word you constantly hear me shouting at my DDs is "Upright!"

Also agree that if you think she has got aptitude - try finding a proper gymnastics club rather than a council run thing.

LOl at the roundoff in the supermarket-that sounds familiar!
