My DD is 4.6yrs and has a dancing show in a couple of months. She only started the tap part of dancing a few months ago and so i got her some tap shoes but on saturday she came out moaning why hasnt she got shoes like everyone else!!! she says everyone has taps on their heels and someone says they dont come with them on you have to have them put on. How do i go about this anyone??? Would they do it at the shop where i bought them? ( proper dancing shop )

Check with the teacher. My dd has only just been allowed heel taps now that she is in Grade 2. If the dancing school want you to have them they will tell you how to go about it.

When I did tap eons ago we all glued a large old penny (the pre decimal sort, really dating myself here) onto each heel. You can buy the proper heel taps though - I think they're nailed on but I imagine the shop would advise if not instal them for you.

KateF is right- you don't need heel taps until grade 2 (for most dancing boards) In fact my daughter has passed her grade 2 (ISTD) and didn't have to have them.

If the shop you bought them at isn't able to put them on you can take them to a shoe menders and they will usually do the job.

Some shoes come with them, some without. I would speak to the teacher and ask what is the norm as well as what is the requirment. I suspect she won't need them but that a lot of the others will have them so it depends how much you want to "pet the fitting in monster".

I found shoes with heel taps for about the same amount as those without so it shouldn't be a problem money-wise (I think they were from dance-direct online) they started small enough for dd who was a small 9 then.
