My 10 and a half year old son wants to cycle to school. As its about 20years since I have been on a bike I think we should both take lessons! Does anyone know of any group lessons locally?

DD1 aged 9 has done this at school this year (5) and will do a further course next year. The lessons happen at school during school time, but parents have to pay, have you asked your school if they do something similar?

Does your school organise cycling proficiency courses??? I organise them every year for the year 6s

Our local education authority also run them in the holidays... 2 hours a day for a week, with the test on the Friday

if you google 'cycling proficiency' it should throw up something.

I 30 years ago took it in top year of juniors. Ds's school do it in year 6.

Goodness! Didn't expect such quick responses! I will contact the school but I wanted to find one I could do with him as I think he's still a bit young to take himself to school on such busy roads-and its about 2 miles.

have a look on the british cycling website and go to the go-ride section - it's got details of clubs and activities for children organised by region - my kids go to a fantastic club in Sutton which has improved their bike-handling skills (and therefore safety) enormously
