Hey everyone, I have some questions about Beavers and thought this was the best place. My DS has just started and I have to clue about how to earn badges. Due to the timetable of events, DS won't have an actual proper session (doing bowling and party) for a few weeks.
How do they earn badge?
If they earn at home, how do you evidence it?
When completing the requirements, how much do you need to spend on each?

Thanks everyone!

Speak with the leaders. Find out which ones they plan to do in sessions, no point in doing the same ones twice.
Things like First Aid, builder, space we'll try to do in sessions.
Ones like the cook one, are best done at home with 121 supervision. So we'd ask for photos.
Swimming if they are doing lessons get the instructor to sign the badge requirements sheet.

The leaders plan the sessions to cover certain badges. Some take just one session but some take longer. Basically to earn the badges you just have to attend!
You can do some at home but there is no pressure. It's usually normal things like gardening, swimming or cycling. We just send in a certificate or an email with a picture of them doing it.
We usually plan a few for the summer just to keep a bit of structure for the kids.

Theres two types of badges. Challenge and activity.

They should cover everything for the challenge badges over the two years.

A lot of the Activity badges are designed for meetings as well. But others are more more individual. Some like swimming they tell you what certificates to bring in for each level. (Look at the website for up to date information, Swimming went through a massive change last year).

Ask the leaders what Stuff they want to see. And remember its a marathon not a sprint... they don't need to get all the badges in the first few months.
