Yes I am a bit confused by that too. Unless they mean that the season is all announced to auditionees etc, but they are doing a formal press release with the new artwork?

Kittykat57 · 28/01/2026 15:17

Where was this advertised? I didn't see anything on Insta.

It was on Chris Cuming's (NYMT Artistic Director) IG story yesterday

They did a formal press release of the 2026 season in October though....

There certainly has to be some sort of Gala concert at the very least? Wondering if that is why no formal announcement of Platform/Crescendo type shows for this year .... yet.

My DS is part of Platform and they are not having a separate show this year. They are allowed to audition for the main shows, but I suspect most of them won't. They have had and probably will have other opportunities to perform or have one-off workshops, but as I understand it, there are no more shows beyond those already announced.

soolin · 29/01/2026 17:39

My daughter is quite new to all this but did BYMT last year. This year she has got a casting call for The Ragged Child. Is she definitely in the show or could she still be bumped out at this stage? Sorry if this seems a dumb question.its just she has another audition that day in Glasgow and it’s a long haul so we need to know whether she has to move her other audition.

From my DS experience, she will audition and then either be cast in a show, cast in New Musical Workshop or offered a Skills Workshop (this is different to the workshop offered to those who are not offered a callback or who pay to join).

doesanybodyhaveamap · 29/01/2026 18:32

@soolinshe will need to attend the recall to be in with a shot at the show. Not everyone seen will be cast. Outcomes after recalls are cast in the show they were called for, cast in a different show, cast in a new musical workshop, offered a skills course appropriate to their level (which is normally different to the ones offered after the first audition).

Recall for WSS and Everyday. It says group warm up then reading and singing. I’d have thought with WSS especially there would be tough dance round. Maybe more details will follow. WSS the dream show so delighted.

Hi everyone! I was on this thread last year as a newbie, when DD did her first NYMT audition and got a skills course. She did a residential skills course, and then later in the year got invited to a new musical workshop (Wind Song) which I imagine is because someone dropped out and they needed to fill the place.

Congratulations to everyone getting their audition outcomes this year!

She's just auditioned for NYMT this year, and heard today she's invited to a casting workshop just for the new musical workshops (it says at this stage they are consider her for any of them). Does anyone know whether there's a chance that after the casting she wouldn't get a role? From this thread it sounds like that's the case with the shows - you can go to the casting workshop but not get cast in a show. But I wasn't sure if that's the case with the new musical workshops.

Thanks!

Hi everyone! For some reason I haven’t had any notifications from mumsnet for ages so I’ve missed all the the 2026 chat. Congratulations to everyone with recalls so far and commiserations to those who have missed out. I really appreciate how hard it is! Thankfully, we just heard my DS has recalls for WSS and Everyday, so feeling very relieved and excited

Lionelblair · 29/01/2026 23:15

lovely to hear about more recalls today. Well done everyone!

Congratulations to your DD on her recall. Yes, I'm afraid I think it's still possible that your DD might not get cast in a workshop. However, there are plenty of them, so hopefully the chances are reasonable. Hope she has a great time at the recall.

Hi Soolin. Congratulations to your DD on her recall.
A recall doesn't guarantee a part in a show. She could get cast, or she could be offered a new musical workshop, or a skills course. However, if the date you have been given really doesn't work for you, you could email NYMT and explain that you have a clash, and they might be able to move your DD to another recall day.

Fantastic! Well done to him.

Delighted to have found this chat - we are totally new to NYMT auditions, DD auditioned for the first time last Sunday and we heard yesterday that she has a casting workshop for new musicals recall but it’s on 21 Feb when we’re flying back from a holiday that morning so can’t make the time/day😖 I have emailed to politely ask if any chance she could attend on 22nd Feb instead (on the website it says recalls are 15,21,22 Feb). What do you think my chances are of them saying yes and moving her to 22nd? 🙏

Mumster40 · 30/01/2026 08:07

Lots of fantastic recall news this morning! Well done everyone. @ItsMeHi48 definitely email them and ask. I know people who have successfully swapped dates in previous years. My DC is auditioning at the weekend. Can’t believe it’s all come along so quickly again….. @Biscuitsneeded interesting to hear that there will be no Platform this year. I’m sure the ‘seniors’ will be an invaluable asset to any production though if they chose to audition x

This happened to us last year because of the half term differences throughout the country. They did some of the recalls on a Monday and Tuesday last year but my DS was still at college so we asked if he could go at the weekend instead of the Monday. There was no problem. I know the numbers are up significantly this year but hopefully they’ll be able to accommodate.

ItsMeHi48 · 30/01/2026 08:22

Thanks for your replies @Operasingerkath @Mumster40 that gives me a bit of hope then that it’s not out of the question - will keep fingers and toes crossed then that they will be willing to move her to the 22nd🙏

Break a leg to your DC! Keep us posted...

I think my DS will probably support from the sidelines this year... We will still watch the shows.

Mari2026 · 30/01/2026 08:49

Congratulations to all those who have been recalled and hope that those who weren't have bounced back.

For those who have attended recalls previously, do they do all the recalls and only then start sending out casting news? We're going to the first day of recalls on the 15th for The Ragged Child and Just So so I am wondering whether it's likely that we won't hear anything until w/c 23rd Feb onwards.

Mumster40 · 30/01/2026 08:58

@Mari2026 In previous years they have waited until they have seen everyone before casting. Which makes sense. So I’m pretty sure that’s what will happen again.

Edited

yes results will come after all the recslls. Often they come out by show. It isn’t normally too long to wait.
