So with the big reveal of the 50th anniversary programme it feels like a good time to start the 2026 chat!

One of my dh's former students opened the show which made him so proud.

So cool! Apparently they were all geeking out over meeting the Sinatra cast 😂

Incidentally (Sinatra actor) was in the same year/class as another NYMT friend of ours.

I very much enjoyed the Sondheim Society Awards yesterday. Lovely to see the cast of West Side Story sing a medley on that iconic stage! Also lovely to see three recent NYMT members among the 12 finalists - they were fabulous - and also an NYMT alumnus as part the entertainment during the jury deliberations!

@Biscuitsneeded I was there too and their choice of winner and runners up were the same as mine!
Particularly impressed with the girl from Uni Oxford who wouldn’t have had time to spend as much time on her performance skills as those in full time drama school

Hi all, just thinking ahead to next year already for diary management/options - does anyone have an idea of what Easter (April) dates NYMT typically do for rehearsals IF cast in a summer show? We had a clash this year and trying to pre-empt it for next year! Thanks

@EweCeeit varies depending on the dates of school holidays as they tend to rehearse either at private schools or ArtsEd. The only safe way to avoid a clash is to wait until after casting to make plans unfortunately, which isn’t ideal and arguably unfair on the rest of the family… but it’s the way we’ve always had to manage it. Either that or accept there may be a missed opportunity OR admin fees for changing holiday dates 🥴

I don't know for sure, but they may have already fixed next year's rehearsal dates. I imagine they are always one step ahead of the current season. You could drop them a line and ask, in case they are able to tell you.

Its not for a holiday, its for another opportunity but we may need to take a chance and see how the chips fall with NYMT and BYMT next year and give up the opportunity now as the current opportunity is a slightly second place option for DC! 🤷‍♀️

The show date and rehearsal dates tend to be available from sometime in the Autumn. Will you have to commit to the other project before that? You might get lucky and find both are possible. Or, because Easter next year is the very first weekend of the holiday, it might be that they use both weeks for rehearsals on one site rather than having everything rehearsing simultaneously. If that's the case, another thing you could do is commit to the other project (a bird in the hand and all that) and then when you do your NYMT audition, let them know upfront that there is only one week your DC can do. That might limit their chances a little as they might be most suitable for the one that's rehearsing in the week you can't do, but at least then NYMT know either to recall for the one(s) you can do or not to recall for shows at all. Remind me what your DC's experience was this year?

My DC got cast in a BYMT show this year. Did NYMT New Musicals last year, then got cast in a regional musical this year with Easter dates and so we excluded those dates for NYMT auditions (no idea if they would have been cast though obviously) not knowing Easter was needed for NYMT shows as well. Got recalled but then we turned down the NMW again as doing BYMT show. I basically made a mess of our planning this year and the past 6 months have been a logistical nightmare of overlapping rehearsals and shows! But worth it 😆

@EweCeeBYMT are flexible though as they don’t cast for a particular role when they select you. So if you couldn’t do the dates for their first offer, they will offer you another. That has been our experience. In fact they re offered three times but unfortunately, the dates didn’t work for us but something to keep in mind

Hi, does anyone in here have a child doing ‘Technical Difficulties’ with BYMT this year?

Totally unrelated question, but does anyone know how long LAMDA results are taking it at the moment - we are almost at six weeks now and I’m sure it was only two weeks last year?

Often 6 weeks to the day, DD is now a LAMDA and never expects them before 5.5weeks.
