Hi, first time poster. My DC has been offered a NMW, her first time auditioning. Is it a workshop on a new musical, but with no show at the end? Trying to make sense of it before she accepts or declines. Any advice please? To anyone who has done one of these previously, was it beneficial? I’m sure it will be a great experience. Thank you so much.

I would 100% recommend after my ds did one a couple of years ago. He loved it and learned so much. It was so exciting to work with the writers. There was a short presentation at the end of the week for parents to watch

manicmumsday · 27/02/2026 11:15

While I wait to hear my DS’ outcome for this year, I’ll share his experience of the skills workshop, in case it helps anyone deciding whether to participate this year.

He did a residential course in Kent last year. Pretty much everyone there had had a recall, like him, and he said the level of talent in the room was really high. He’s still in touch with several of them and some have had top tier drama school offers this year.

The NYMT team running the sessions were fantastic. Acting through song for example was taught by a well known director, who has directed several west end musicals. He was incredibly engaging. My DS absolutely loved the week, learnt a massive amount and came home buzzing.

i know firsthand how disappointing it is not to get offered a show or NMW (we’ve been there several times) but in my experience, if your child loves musical theatre, a skills workshop can still be a magical learning experience for them.

MxPickles · 27/02/2026 11:26

Skills courses are amazing and absolutely 100% worth taking part in if you have the funds and means to do so.

Unfortunately you can't apply for funding to take place in skills courses in the same way you can for NMW and Productions so there are going to be people receiving skills course that effectively rule them out of taking part this year purely due to finances.

Gentle request to be mindful of this as results come in, and of course gl to those still waiting to hear - surely all its all offers from here on in :)

allhailthebrain · 27/02/2026 11:30

Mine got NMW - and not one they can logistically accept. End of a very long run for us. Grateful for that but really gutted today.

ItsMeHi48 · 27/02/2026 11:31

Thanks to those sharing their experiences here, it’s super helpful. My DD was recalled for NMW but has been offered Skills workshop pathway - her first time auditioning so we’re new to this. She’s at school so doesn’t know yet. How quickly do the skills workshops book up? I’m conscious we don’t want to miss out if she does want to go ahead with one but equally can’t book until I’ve discussed with her later today and given it some proper consideration

One of the options has already disappeared from our link. Assume it's now fully booked?

ItsMeHi48 · 27/02/2026 11:36

Yes @SharonBotts i thought I spotted that 😬

seventwelve25 · 27/02/2026 11:45

NMW offer here for dd. Also at school so she doesn't know yet. I think it's natural to dream for the top and so they'll be a tiny element of wishing she'd got a show, but I also know she had the most amazing time at a NMW last year and the excitement will soon kick in! I'm excited for her!

Congratulations to your DC. That’s an amazing achievement. My DS did a NMW and while he was quite young at the time, he got a huge amount from it. Agree with others, it’s 100% worth doing.

A huge well done to your DC!

Keepcominghome · 27/02/2026 11:59

Hi @Wigeon can’t work out how to reply to your message sorry - they have done both show and NMW before and are at an age where they’re self-funding this; this NMW isn’t ideal timing for them and also doesn’t seem a great fit in terms of music type and parts (nearly all for the opposite gender if the music online is anything to go by!) so I think they will decline, with regret as they’ve had a great time before but life moves on! So I do feel there will be movement on the various lists.

wonderfullife123 · 27/02/2026 12:06

My DD also been offered a NMW, she will accept and is excited..First time acceptance for NYMT though she has done BYMT before a few times and is an NYT member. Sorry for those disappointed this time. My DD's 4th attempt with NYMT, had one recall before but no offer and twice no recall. Performing is certainly a tough gig but they do love it! In the midst of drama school applications here and it has been beyond brutal so grateful for a little boost for DD on this one.

That's such great news for your DD. Congratulations! Amazing grit and determination - it is a very tough gig - but that can be what makes the difference.

Mumster40 · 27/02/2026 12:36

Ragged Child offers are out. My DC is over the moon to be offered a role. Over the years they have had show offers/ workshop offers and skills workshop offers. I know how it feels when things don’t pan out the way you hope. But all these young people are incredibly brave and resilient. An outcome one year may be different the next. X

Oreapink · 27/02/2026 12:39

My DD did first year Skills WS, second year NMW and she was invited to do it again in October and at last…has been offered a named role in Ragged Child. She’s delighted that turning up and putting in the work has paid off at last. She’s got a lot from the workshops and NWS and got cast in main roles in both of them. She loved doing them so we’d definitely recommend them.

ItsMeHi48 · 27/02/2026 12:43

The skills workshops (residential and non) that we have been offered now, are they the same as those we might have been offered if she hadn’t been recalled for the NMW?

redgee · 27/02/2026 12:49

Wigeon · 27/02/2026 09:49

Working link to the skills workshop now sent - it would be interesting to know whether they do offer different courses to different young people depending on their current skills, or whether everyone gets the same offer? I don't think it's necessarily worse if it's all the same, since different DC can still get lots out of a course even with people who are more or less skilled at the different aspects of musical theatre than them.

Here's what DD has been offered.

Edited

We were no recall, I think we had same/similar dates plus one for w/c 10th (Canterbury, residential) which is the one we booked. Not sure we had the option of w/c 3rd though - we couldn't do Easter, nor w/c 24th. And I think I would have considered w/c 3rd - there were also some non-res which I had ruled out due to logistics and cost.

So I guess not all skills workshops are offered to everyone?

Theatrelovingfamily21 · 27/02/2026 13:01

Well done everyone on your outcomes. My DD has been offered NMW. That was her goals this year after recalling for 2 shows last year and doing the skills workshop.

She has also been offered a place on a BYMT show. That finishes on the 9th and has to be collected at 9am but the NYMT starts in Canterbury at 1pm. Do you think there is any possibility she could go if not there until 2? I’m going to email but wasn’t sure if anyone had previous experience.

HanD31 · 27/02/2026 13:01

Hugs to you all who will be supporting disappointed kids. My DD has friends who had parts last year in shows who have NMW offers. It’s an industry with so many variables. My DD after all that (worry about not getting to do sides in front of director) has been cast in a part in Just So she is over the moon and very grateful.

This is amazing! Hard works and dedication has clearly paid off. Congratulations to her!!

DD got offered a minor role in WSS. I would be interested to know if there is an allocation for ensemble for WSS or if her character will be a part of ensemble.

Operasingerkath · 27/02/2026 13:34

Huge congratulations to everyone on their offers and hugs to everyone suffering disappointment. My DS has got WSS which he is so excited about!

My DS has been offered Just So. Phew. Lots of good wishes to all whatever the outcome.
