So with the big reveal of the 50th anniversary programme it feels like a good time to start the 2026 chat!

Email arrived...DD (auditioned for the NMWs) got a skills workshop. Oh well. Not sure if it's worth doing another skills course when she did one last year, given the expense. Anyone done more than one skills workshop?!

Good luck to everyone else - hopefully you'll all be hearing very soon.

MxPickles · 27/02/2026 08:47

As my gut told me all along this year is not going to be our year. Good Luck to everyone stil waiting x

EweCee · 27/02/2026 08:50

Not our year (callback for NMW) - got offered Skills workshop this year which we'll turn down. Thankfully have the BYMT production already confirmed as she'd be disappointed otherwise having done NMW last year!

Good luck to those still waiting!

ChazzyB · 27/02/2026 09:10

Morning, my Dd also just got offered skills workshop having auditioned for NMW.
annoyingly the link they sent for booking the skills workshop isn’t working. Does everyone else who was offered skill workshop have the same issue? If not could anyone share the link?
Thank you! 🙏

Wigeon · 27/02/2026 09:13

It looks like they are sending the skills workshop offers out first! The booking link also doesn't work for me so I've emailed them, although I'm not sure if it's worth DD doing a second skills workshop (sounds like they're going to get a lot of emails, I feel for the people administrating all this!).

It also says it's a personal booking link, so it sounds like links shouldn't be shared?

doesanybodyhaveamap · 27/02/2026 09:14

There are different options for different kids so I wouldn’t share as your kid might end up in the wrong group…

@Wigeon a tricky decision when you’ve done a skills course before. However I believe that they place them in groups according to the stage they’re at, so it may well be that the experience would be different this time around.
plus different creatives, different kids… there’s always something to learn! If your DC enjoyed the experience last year and wants to do it, I’d say it’s still likely to be worthwhile.

Our booking link for Skills workshop doesn't work either and I emailed to tell them and they just resent the same email with broken link again! 🤔

DMEAmum · 27/02/2026 09:25

I seem to remember that there was a similar issue with broken links last year, but they got it resolved very quickly. Maybe we need to send biscuits (good ones!) in their direction - The admin on all of this must be a nightmare

Comefromaway · 27/02/2026 09:41

Sorry to hear the news that some of your young people have not been offered what they would have liked. But I hope they realise that even just to get a recall is a massive acheivement in itself.

Wigeon · 27/02/2026 09:49

Working link to the skills workshop now sent - it would be interesting to know whether they do offer different courses to different young people depending on their current skills, or whether everyone gets the same offer? I don't think it's necessarily worse if it's all the same, since different DC can still get lots out of a course even with people who are more or less skilled at the different aspects of musical theatre than them.

Here's what DD has been offered.

These are the same options my DD was offered and she did not get a recall this year (she did a NMW last year)

EweCee · 27/02/2026 10:02

Same offers as DD got too (and she did NMW last year and recalled for NMW this year)

Wigeon · 27/02/2026 10:15

My DD wasn't recalled last year but then got an offer to participate in a NMW (after she did a residential Easter skills course), which I am guessing is because someone dropped out of the NMW and they thought she did well on the skills course. But who knows!

I don't know what that tells you about what level of skill NYMT thinks she has, if there are indeed different skills courses for different level of skill!

Does this mean the workshops are the same regardless of whether you were recalled or not? Just trying to figure out how it works. Does anyone who has experience of the skills workshops know if they were split according to those who recalled or didn't recall or by whatever standard NYMT had categorised them as? Also, any feedback from anyone on whether they are worth doing and what the main advantages of doing a course? Thank you in advance.

Keepcominghome · 27/02/2026 10:47

Offers for NMW now coming out. My DC for one is a bit unsure whether to accept so there may be some movement as well going forward.

Wigeon · 27/02/2026 10:48

I posted a couple of times earlier on this thread in quite a bit of detail about DD's experience of a residential skills workshop last Easter, do have a read back through. I think a couple of other people have posted on this thread too about skills workshop experiences.

They seem to have been very positive for everyone!

I can ask DD later if she knows whether anyone on her skills course last year was recalled (she wasn't last year).

Congratulations! Do you mind me asking why is your DC not sure whether to accept? Do they have offers for other things that clash, or were hoping for a show, or something else?

I asked this in a previous year and never got a straight or clear answer from NYMT so I think they are the same from my DC's experience (some particpants recalled, some not). That being said when my DC did do a Skills workshop, they absolutely loved it and we saw a real step up in one aspect of their performing at the little show at the end of the week that we were invited to so they definitely gained from attending.
