NYMT/BYMT 2026

So with the big reveal of the 50th anniversary programme it feels like a good time to start the 2026 chat!

Is it too early to open the gin?

Thankfully after a day off work my inbox is replacing biscuits! My DD thinks today but I am prepping for tomorrow.

Has anyone been thought the process for BYMT and NYMT in the same year and had potential clashes? My DD has been offered a place in one of BYMT’s shows this year and had two recalls for NYMT. I haven’t confirmed her place with BYMT as it will depend on the outcome of NYMT. We would also require help with funding. Do I need to start that process with BYMT or should I wait? I don’t want to waste anyone’s time. I am hoping we hear back from NYMT today or tomorrow as we need to confirm with BYMT by Friday.

I think keep on eking out those biscuits. They normally say 'by the end of the week', so I wouldn't bank on anything before then.

That's a tricky one. If it gets to Friday morning with no NYMT news, could you ask BYMT for an extension until Monday 'while you assess your finances'? If offered both, what would your DD prefer, do you think? I think it's very likely you will have NYMT news this week, based on past experience, but it might go close to the wire.

Thank you, yes I have been sat here pondering for days about what to do and then came across this thread. She auditioned for NYMT last year and had two recalls and ended up with skills residential which she attended. She has said if she gets into NYMT show or NMW that would 100% be her preference. Obviously there is a big chance she won’t get in to one, so we don’t want to decline BYMT as she got into one of the shows she was really hoping for. I’ll do what you suggest and if not heard by Thursday afternoon maybe email BYMT and see if we can come back to them once we have heard. Thank you.

Who else admits to refreshing their inbox a fair few times already?! I know realistically it's a bit too early - I mean that would be some super speedy processing of 600 - 700 young people! Now just need to keep busy for the next day or so!!

It did come Wednesday in 24 and it came Friday last year after Tuesday auditions so it could be today. Seems to be more towards the end of the day but could all change this year- who knows. My dc just asked to let them know if any news on the ‘mums group’ 🤣

Having the same dilemma, as my DD has been offered a production with BYMT, and was recalled for NMW with NYMT, having done a skills course last year, and is really keen to do a NMW if offered. I might well be wrong, but I think NYMT will be well aware that lots of DC audition for both and that the BYMT deadline for acceptance is Friday, so will want to get their offers out before end of play on Friday. Yes good point, NYMT will know that Friday is the day BYMT offers have to be accepted. I suspect the NYMT emails will be out this week - maybe as late as Friday daytime if they are still wrangling clashes etc- but they are likely to make sure people have news before the end of the day. If your DC is in the system for both, maybe have the conversation in advance about their prioroties so you can act quickly if news comes during Friday!

Last year my DC was offered BYMT before NYMT. I think she turned down the initial BYMT offer but was subsequently offered two more shows very late in time as well.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if they offer parts to leads first before offering to smaller roles and ensemble? For example, do they wait until their first choice for, say, Maria in WSS has accepted the part before offering their second choice Maria a different role or ensemble part etc.?

@SharonBottsI think all the offers go out at the same time. Well, they are emailed show by show, usually starting with the NMW offers. Last year my DC was offered a NMW which we accepted and paid for. And two weeks later they received a new offer of being in one of the shows. So my DC was probably second choice for that role. They were obviously delighted and started rehearsal with the rest of the cast in April!

No, all offers go out together. It's unusual for people to turn down NYMT show offers, and even more so if they were to get a lead. If it were to happen then they would recast the role (probably from within their cast) and someone else (most likely from a NMW) would be invited to join the cast.

Do the yes emails go out before or after the no emails?

There won't be any 'no' emails as everybody is offered something, be that a skills workshop, NMW or show. I think someone mentioned earlier that emails go out in projects, but I reckon the timing of those is relatively close together, that is, all in one afternoon, if that makes sense xx

Looking at last year's thread, the skills workshops went out first, closely followed by NMW and then the productions

Fingers firmly crossed it is SOON now! Break a leg to all your talented and brave DC, and remember if it's not what they hoped for this time, that there have been so many young people, even in the relatively short history of this annual thread, who have been disappointed one year and ecstatic the next. They are all clearly very talented and should feel really proud of how far they have come. I know I couldn't have done anything like this at their age - still couldn't now!
