Dance school exams

Eldest dances once a week. Have received email to say that a date has been set for the examination. It's a Friday during term time.
Given that the dance classes are all after school or on Saturdays I was surprised to hear that its a possibility she'll need to come out of school to take the exam. Is this usual practice?

I'm in Aus, my DD does ballet and her exams are always on a weekday. The other dance styles are mostly the same.

Exams are set by the examining dance body, not the school. I assume their examiners don't want to work weekends. It's a major PITA as DD has prep classes too... during weekdays day, on the holidays.

Totally normal, and schools are happy to authorise time off for stuff like dance or music exams, I think they put my dd's down as 'educated off-site' or something like that. She did a shedload of dance exams, and I think there were only ever one or two at the weekend, they were nearly all on weekdays during the school day in term-time.

Yes, it is usual practice, the same as piano/violin etc exams. It's down to the availability of examiners.

Very normal. Schools will give permission for time away from school for dance and music exams.

I've never had this... but sounds like plenty of others have! I guess our teacher is good at nabbing weekend slots!

It's classed as education off site and your dance teacher should be able to give you a letter/ form. We've had this in the past when they can't get weekend slots. I think our teacher saved the out of school hour slots for secondary age students who it would have more of an impact on. Hope she enjoys the exam. My dd always got excited and came out on a real high.

Totally normal. We've had a couple at a weekend, but mostly during the school day and at various locations.
