Rankings updated correctly again too.

Nothing really. Not even an issue really. Just something simple and easily sorted.

Glittertwins · 23/05/2023 21:03

Glad it was sorted quickly

Anyone got any top tips for recovering from "swimmers elbow"? The coach's advice was go for a sports massage but the sports massage person said they couldn't do anything for elbows.

Madcats · 24/05/2023 16:26

Other than using google, I would try to track down a sports doctor (our local private hospital has a team)

There might also be a few at your local(?) Uni or football/rugby club.

I think the answer is likely to be to cut back on training and use a kickboard and take anti inflammatories.

Wishing DS a speedy recovery

Glittertwins · 24/05/2023 16:34

No idea at all, sorry. I'd be cutting down on pull / hand paddles if used and do more kick and drill work though

Thanks both, I have googled but mostly found swimmer shoulder info. The bit about elbows recommends stopping doing the exercise that caused the injury which went down like a lead balloon.

DH has been sent for pain killers and ibuprofen gel. I've told him to tell coach and ask to use a kickboard and mostly do kick but DS doesn't talk so I'm notnsure how well that will go. I cant keep talking for him though so hopefully the pain will be enough to force him to speak up for himself.

Madcats · 24/05/2023 17:19

At the risk of a family meltdown, I would be telling you DS to spend tonight in front of the telly or going for a run if the coach is old fashioned enough to make swimmers train as normal with that sort of injury.

Have a look here for some suggestions about how to treat the condition:

Swimmer's Elbow Exercises

When you consider the amount of pain you are in with swimmer’s elbow, you may not want to participate in too many swimmer’s elbow exercises. It is important, however, to maintain a certain level of activity so that the stiffness does not get worse, and...

Hellocatshome · 24/05/2023 18:04

@madcats luckily he has no training tonight anyway im hoping this is just a small niggle that will quickly resolve otherwise I may have to move out. I'll take a look at those exercises thank you.

Where about are you? For a different but equally debilitating injury, my daughter attended FASIC at Edinburgh University. There may be something similar where you are.

We are North East England, I wouldn't be against travelling to Edinburgh if necessary.

I very much doubt that miniCats will 'fess, but I seem to remember that he is a fan of open water swimming, which some of our masters have been up to in recent weeks (but DD refuses to contemplate until the water warms up a bit)?

Take it easy, anyway. I thought we've both been on GCSE threads so you could do without a grumpy injured swimmer as well.

Ah its not my GCSE son who is the swimmer thank the Lord! Yes he does like the open water which is also an issue as he has a few big open water events coming up which I can't imagine being much fun with a knackered elbow.

WarningToTheCurious · 24/05/2023 20:40

Can you ring round local sports physios to find one that has specific expertise with swimmers?

If your club or other local clubs have swimmers on national pathways then they might be able to recommend their physios?

Glittertwins · 25/05/2023 05:29

Failing that, might Swim England be able to help? They've usually been decent when I've spoken to them

How's everyone fairing up?

We have a quieter week as BH today and half term.

Off to Loughborough Thursday for a camp day.

Hellocatshome · 29/05/2023 19:13

Hi @itsgettingweird well it turns out DSs elbow problems may well have been more friendship related than actual pain in elbow related. All seems to be sorted now though one way or the other so thats a bonus.

No training today for the BH which was handy as at the worlds hotest gala all weekend and what made it worse was you could actually see the beach and sea from the pool!

He has an open water comp at the weekend and I have just realised he is the only child swimming all the rest are adults.

Glittertwins · 30/05/2023 07:04

Hope that also gets sorted out!
I'll raise you on world's hottest gala, London was rather hot on Sunday!

Did you go to AP international? I heard there wasn't as many spectators as they'd hoped.

Glad he's feeling better hello but it's not good that people are being unkind.

Glittertwins · 30/05/2023 09:43

Yes, I'd also agree numbers were rather down

Imagine the heat if it was full!!!!!

Was SM somewhere I read it and they hoped that they'd build on it year but year.

We had an email from our club at the weekend because they'd given complimentary tickets and club were giving away first come first serve.

Eccle80 · 30/05/2023 11:02

Was it a good event? I’d looked at going but we’ve had so many other weekends taken over by swimming recently

itsgettingweird · 30/05/2023 11:52

Yeah I really fancied going too.

But we've had medical appointments all this morning and Loughborough all day Thursday and then we are going to watch Russel Howard on Saturday.

I fancied going back after half term rested not more knackered than when it started 🤣🤣

But physio this morning was brilliant. They are putting in a plan for ds as his mobility/ range of movement is in a downward spiral atm.

But he was impressed with ds upper body strength. Both ds and I laughed and said he couldn't swim if it wasn't considering his legs give his nothing!
