We care for my husbands step dad (had a stroke)
DS is going to visit and spend time with him and use that as his volunteering

My DS friend did litter picking with local council
My DS helped out at local watersports centre with younger kids class every week
I think someone else in his class went to an old people's home once a week and chatted to residents/mage them tea /read to them

Ds helped at church on the sound desk, DD helps at church doing cleaning, teas and coffees etc. Another friend helps at park run, another at church girls club. Riding for the disabled always look for volunteers, Don't need to be horsey as training is given.

The DofE website also has lists of suggestions.
