Hi there, is there anyone on here who has kids who are string players who have played in the National Youth String Orchestra? Ds is 16 and a half and plays viola and violin and it's been suggested by his head of junior conservatoire that he auditions for this. Weee in the South East and the residential at Easter and Summer are at a school in near Peterborough which is a 2+ hour drive from us. That's all fine but ds is Autistic and does struggle being away from home. Just wondered if anyone has any experiences of them.
Thank you

Hi,
My DS was in the intermediate ensemble in 2021, with the summer course in Stamford.
He really enjoyed it and the standard was excellent. The pastoral care staff were great too.
He would have loved to do it again last year but the course dates clashed with another orchestra residency he really wanted to do.

disorganisedmummy, did your son audition in the end? Is he off to the Easter course?

Hi,

Apologies for jumping in. My DD plays viola.

Does anyone have any experience of senior NYSO?

Thanks in advance.
