Swimming certificates

My dd has been to swimming lessons since she was 3, group lessons. Not one to one. She got her first badge/certificate when she was 5, 5m badge. Then got her 10m badge a year later. We've obviously had the usual breaks due to COVID etc. but that's all she's ever had. I know it's down to ability etc but she has improved. We got told certificates last July, but nothing. Then got told they'd have them in April, but still nothing?

The learn to swim programme works through stages.

Stage 1-10. Is she following this?

They have to be able to swim the distance confidently and with a technically good stroke.

From 10m the next badge is 25m so there's a huge difference.

Then they double from there so 50/100/200/400 etc.

The best thing to do is speak to instructor and ask what she needs to do to complete next stage and badge as then she'll have a clear idea and having a goal is much more motivating.

@itsgettingweird I feel like the instructor is just fobbing me off to be honest and I'm going to move her. Those are the only badges she's received. She does different strokes and swims the length of the pool. I've noticed other kids doing levels? She's never had anything to say she does these?

How old is she?

I personally don't think badges matter (save to motivate kids!). What matters to me is how strong a swimmer they are, whether they can do front crawl competently (this is the stroke which will get you out of trouble as it's the strongest stroke) whether they can save themselves if they fall in (get to the side and get out).

Where is she in relation to stuff like that?

@legoplanter she's fine with that. Very competent. She just has had nothing to motivate her for three years.

We have to buy the certificates. We get an email when they earn one.
