Leaving Whatsapp group

My DS is leaving his present school at the end of term, I am in the Parent Whatsapp group for his class. How do I go about leaving? They talk about school related stuff but often other stuff too. I know another child left the school so the Mum just disappeared from the group.

You just delete the group from your whatsapp messages, that will remove you from the group . Is that what you mean?

Swipe left, more, exit group on iphone

Make everyone admin (so they can take over) and exit group, simple as that x

Just leave the group and don’t think any more about it. I left the class WhatsApp group even though my kid is still there!

Do you mean literally how do you leave? On my phone I click on the group info and then on exit group

If you want to stay in touch with some but not all then have separate WhatsApp chats with them and then maybe join the ones you want to keep in touch with over time. I have an (ExSchool)6 group which has 6 of us in. My son left, then another later but the 6 of us stay in touch.

Once your child is at a new school you will find you will be less interested in the wider group chat but the ones you are still friends with will know the main newsworthy gossip anyway!

A simple goodbye note and leave immediately after posting it, eg "I'm stepping away from this group now we have left the school. Wishing you all the best for next year" And Exit.

Does alert the group though? XYZ has left the group….etc….does it look like a flounce? Or should you leave a message saying - wishing you all well , leaving the school and this group etc? Is that too much?

DO you mean 'technically' - how you literally leave a WhatsApp Group - or do you have a subtext to do with emotions, and if it will upset people ?

Either just leave the group without any announcement,
or you could say
"DS is leaving at the end of term, so I will come out of the group now. Wishing you all the best, Harcar"
(or direct message anyone you want to stay in touch with individually first)

Sorry, that wasn’t explained very well. I meant as my DS is leaving the school, I needed to know the appropriate time to let the others know on Whatsapp. I may well stay in touch with a couple. I don’t want to just leave abruptly as I have no issues with the group or their posts.

You are definitely overthinking this. Any of the messages suggested above will do.

We only decided that DS was leaving about two weeks before the end of term. I told my closer friends more or less straightaway and then put a message on the class WA group with about a week to go. By that stage, quite a few had heard through the parent or child WA.
About half sent a generic "good luck at the new school" type reply & a few messaged me separately "off group". A few made cards for him at home which they gave him over the last couple of days.

So funny. If she can't work out how to simply leave the group there is no way she will work out how to make everyone admin. I know you were being kind but that did make me chuckle.

I assume you already have the details of the people you'll stay friends with? Either just leave the group or send a quick message saying 'thanks for all the fun times/ help/ or whatever' and go.

Thanks. I just need to know when is the appropriate time? I think I will let them know soon. They’ll notice when I’m not at the school gate in September lol!
