Seems I managed to fill the other thread with talk of taking fridges to away galas! And I didnt even mean a fridge I meant an electric cool box Grin So I've started another thread. Hope you all find it.

OP posts:

It was 24°c here at 5am when we left home!!!!

Currently 30 but muggy and cloudy and not sunny. I'll have the windows open again when we leave in a bit!!!!

Glittertwins · 19/07/2022 17:34

22 when I went to the pool. I have never appreciated the coolness of a competition pool so much as I did today!!

itsgettingweird · 19/07/2022 19:14

It started raining when we drove down.

Never driving in the piss pouring rain have I kept my windows open for the rain to come in - until today Grin

Forecast thunderstorms tomorrow but they don't swim Wednesdays.

Sheffield forecast 25/26 over the weekend.

Glittertwins · 19/07/2022 19:25

Me and the cat are out in the rain. Bit pitiful really, it's almost stopped

Madcats · 19/07/2022 19:39

Two days of open meet at the weekend was excellent prep (though it didn't get above 32 degrees here per my "in the shade" thermometer).

I am getting the makings of a light SE cool breeze (which is odd because that's where I thought the heat was coming from).

Good luck to all those competing this week.

Glittertwins · 20/07/2022 07:28

Tickets for nationals appeared overnight in my inbox so check your email!

itsgettingweird · 20/07/2022 16:30

Yeah have mine and all printed ready - very exciting!!!!

Glittertwins · 20/07/2022 19:48

Feeling relieved DS had never swum a 1500 LC before otherwise we'd have been going to Sheffield tomorrow for a Friday swim

Madcats · 20/07/2022 20:12

Can I ask for a temporary distraction from the forthcoming excitement (and we do need to have updates) but teen started talking about swimming over supper. She'd been watching swimming on Youtube.

I get a bit bored watching races, but older kids (normally boys) tend to breathe every 2 strokes (as were the long distance swimmers she was watching).

Why is that?

I remember sitting at meet a few years ago where a girl was pulled out of the pool at the finish on a fairly long event LC as she was hyperventilating. She had form for it, per her parents sat close to us.

Glittertwins · 20/07/2022 20:38

DS has started doing the breathing every two strokes, bugs the heck out of me as bilateral every three is better for keeping stroke balanced and an even rotation of body. DS claims he gets more oxygen in breathing every two these days.

itsgettingweird · 21/07/2022 04:51

I don't know about LD.

But when watching even the international swimmers many do this.

When ds has been on the swim england camps he's been told that you learn bilateral but as you get better and higher level you find your own way on racing.

For example they changed his breathing on his 100m free to get him enough oxygen and improve his stamina in the last 25.

You there already?

We are coming up tomorrow.

Go on then. Tell me how much I'm gonna get conned to buy him one of those 🤣🤣

What colours do they do?

Hellocatshome · 21/07/2022 20:30

I'm not there but I have heard on the grapevine that is the only colour they do in hoodie. More choice of colour in T Shirts apparently.

itsgettingweird · 21/07/2022 20:34

I do like that colour.

Ds has a bright orange one from counties many years ago.

Navy from regionals this year.

I quite like it when there's no choice in colour. Stops him faffing Grin

Glittertwins · 22/07/2022 04:59

We'll be there later, got sent the pic from a club mate already there. Pricing fairly reasonable. Hoody £40, t- shirt £19, hat £9.
All 3 together priced at £65.
Our counties and regionals hoodies were £65 alone.

Glittertwins · 22/07/2022 04:59

T- shirt choice - white or navy

Wow that's actually good value.

Our regionals hoody's were £54!

Glittertwins · 22/07/2022 09:53

Hope everyone can avoid the fuel protests en route.

Glittertwins · 22/07/2022 18:15

Survived the motorway. Good luck to @itsgettingweird's DS tomorrow. We might see you if we are there early enough

Hellocatshome · 22/07/2022 19:01

Yes good luck all swimmers and swim parents at British Champs I feel a bit sick with nerves just watching our club swimmers on You Tube so can't imagine the nerves of those actually there.

turkeyboots · 22/07/2022 19:51

Good luck to all the Championships swimmers.

Our Summer Nationals are on and we have the biggest ever Club representation this year. 10 kids, a tenth of the club! Roll on swimming Summer holidays though, we have the first 2 weeks of August off and the early starts are getting harder the closer we get.

itsgettingweird · 22/07/2022 21:29

Well we left home at 10am.

Said 4 hrs and 12 minutes. Stopped for lunch at noon ish.

Got back in car and it said it'll take 4hrs and 16 minutes!!!!

We didn't go the fuel route way (we were coming A34 and M1) but there were a LOT of cars in general!

But 6.5 hrs later we arrived and we've done his training session!

In hotel now having dinner. Smile

Porseb · 22/07/2022 22:28

We were at training session this evening too :)

Glittertwins · 23/07/2022 07:17

Good luck today @Porseb
