Seems I managed to fill the other thread with talk of taking fridges to away galas! And I didnt even mean a fridge I meant an electric cool box Grin So I've started another thread. Hope you all find it.

We need 3. Is that going to be likely to get? I've usually been coach or official so rarely spectate but this time I'd just like to watch and shout for him

itsgettingweird · 22/06/2022 20:10

A family at club got 3 at last British event.

But if they limit then we can always sort something out as I only need 1 but could get 2 (unless they do it by sessions as Dani's a different session!)

itsgettingweird · 22/06/2022 20:11

Ds is. I've no idea who Dani is 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣🤣

Glittertwins · 22/06/2022 20:19

Friends definitely got at least 4 in April this year so fingers crossed!

itsgettingweird · 25/06/2022 10:25

Good morning!

How's everyone's week going?

Full on here on run up to British but it'll calm down in a few weeks as they taper.

They have all finished exams now (a few have history Monday) so are full on in training mode as they swim, eat sleep repeat - as the saying goes through each day!

I hope your ds is feeling better hellocats our lake has claimed for OW this week due to the weather causing high algae.

Glittertwins · 25/06/2022 11:49

Quiet weekend for us with no meets so am now catching up on the world champs from last night.

Hellocatshome · 25/06/2022 11:54

@itsgettingweird yes thank you DS got over the sickness quickly and went OW swimming again later in the week. Was hampered quite badly by the weeds but I said at least he's experienced that in case it's similar conditions at the Regionals.

School is getting pretty full on for DS with trips to a theme park, Geography field trips and a schools triathlon event coming up this week so training is getting a bit messed about and he has a long course gala this coming weekend so not great timing but never mind as long as he's having fun.

itsgettingweird · 25/06/2022 13:24

At your ds age hellocats it's really good to experience it all and see what you can do when tired, not in full training etc. it's just a learning experience.

It's only when they get older they need to decide and choose.

My ds is 17 now and only just making choices to cut down to certain races at meets and this is the first year he's just stuck to county and regional etc.

Glittertwins · 25/06/2022 19:24

I really wish the BBC commentators would think before they feel the need to fill the silence! I know they weren't backstroke swimmers but they should know it's very possible to get DQ for the whole body being underwater at the end of a backstroke race.
Poor Justin Ress, bet he won't do that again!

itsgettingweird · 25/06/2022 19:30

I'm only just catching up with worlds.

Just on day 2. I'm spreading it out as isolating before surgery Tuesday and then will have a few days of recovery to spend watching!

One of ds teammates is from another country and competed!

I was watching the semis yesterday and Justin areas had his full body submerged.

I was watching off the FINA link - not the BBC and the 2 Australian commentators are very good.

One of Australian commentators said after the semis yesterday that Justin Ress was really lucky to get into the final as his body was submerged as he touched. So someone really ought to have pulled Ress up to caution him.

Repeating it in the final is more than careless but I see the DQ has been overturned!!!

Glittertwins · 25/06/2022 19:53

I've was watching BBC on catch up and I've just lost it due to the session finishing so I'll have to wait for later. So Ress is reinstated as winner? Looked to be totally underwater on the replay I did (probably why I lost coverage as I went back!!)

Which little toe was deemed to be over the surface 😆

Dreikanter · 25/06/2022 21:42

I guess they use the underwater cameras to review the DQs?

I used to hate being a judge on the 100 IM because many of the big guys would be cheating like mad and trying to cover up with big splashy turns.

Glittertwins · 26/06/2022 09:23

I don't like the cross over turns between the back and breast on the IMs. Seeing a lot of non simultaneous touches on breaststroke as the swimmer tries to turn before they actually touch the wall and totally miss with their second hand

Dreikanter · 26/06/2022 09:31

We had several swimmers that did horrible crossover and suicide turns. Plus several that would try and cover up multiple butterfly kicks on breaststroke turns by being super splashy.

Glittertwins · 26/06/2022 09:40

It's really hard to see multiple kicks underwater the further they are from the wall when the lighting and reflection hide it. Benefit of doubt to swimmer.

Dreikanter · 26/06/2022 09:44

Our Commonwealth swimmer was notorious for it - got properly caught at the BUCS one year though and DQed for it.

itsgettingweird · 26/06/2022 09:52

That's so true about lighting! I know breastroke swimmers much prefer a middle Lane Wink

my daughter who doesn’t like breaststroke much so doesn’t swim it that much had a moment of madness forgot what she was doing and did 4 butterfly kicks after a dive and didn’t get dq’d

She swam a proper bad time as she assumed she had been.

Teateaandmoretea · 28/06/2022 18:48

As an official I hate backstroke turns. Maybe I don’t know what I’m doing but different people tell me different things 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hellocatshome · 28/06/2022 19:09

@Teateaandmoretea I know a young swimmer who is a very good breaststroker but always without fail does 3 butterfly kicks off the start and every turn. He has never once been DQ'd even at regional level. I imagine at some point it will come back to bite him but certainly hasn't yet.

Glittertwins · 28/06/2022 19:19

I don't have a problem with backstroke turns, just have to watch the trailing arm carefully to make sure if keeps moving if they are a long way from the wall and turn onto their front rather early. No kicking on their front after they have turned over and they must be on their back (not over vertical line) when they leave wall.

Teateaandmoretea · 28/06/2022 19:25

You see I was told by a referee that a butterfly kick can form part of initiating the turn. Likewise up to then I watched the trailing arm - but I’m now really confused!
