Beginner piano/keyboard recommendation

What would others recommend for a child just starting out? We’d eventually like a nice digital piano but space is a bit of a problem at the moment so wasn’t sure if we could start on a basic keyboard. I’ve read some articles that have said that’s not ok though as they’ll find it hard to adapt to the piano. Does anyone have any recommendations/thoughts re what would work for a very early beginner please?

yamaha digital pianos are good. it's full size and has dynamic keys.
you can often pick up a used one for a good price.

Just seen this so you may have already decided. Yes full size keyboard and weighted keys are key things to look out for to be able to transfer easily to piano. There should be options within that that can be propped against a wall when not in use.
I'd talk to potential teacher and see what they say.
Another option is to learn music basics with a smaller instrument first e.g. recorder. (Obvs doesn't apply if it's already a second instrument!)

They’re fine to start on a keyboard, if nothing else they may decide they hate it. I bought a Yamaha when DD started on Grade 1 .

Yes, you really need weighted.

Yamaha P45 is a good basic option.
