Full sized violin recommendations

DDs teacher has said she’ll probably need a full size violin in about 6 months. She’s been playing for a while, it was all very much driven by her and I can’t see her giving up any time soon.
I would like to invest in decent violin, she’s currently working at a grade 2 level and I’d like to get her something that will get her up to grade 8 should she wish. I’d also like something that will hold its value and she could sell if she ever choses to give up.
We have a bit of time to save up (I haven’t even looked at prices yet but know it’s ££££), I think for her the most important thing is good tone as she’s complaining that her violin sounds so different to her teachers.
Any advice or recommendations?

Try asking on the music thread, lots of knowledgeable string players there who will recommend brands/shops. My guess might be you might not get one that would go all the way to grade 8 straight away unless she is old enough to look after it well. It's a good sign she can tell the difference in sound though.

Go to a specialist string shop. I've said this before here but I highly recommend Cardiff Violins www.cardiffviolins.co.uk. No I don't own shares in the company, but I've bought violins and bows over the years for DD, and they are exceptionally helpful. They can send violins to you (I'm in London, so have depended on their couriers), and they are extremely good value.

One thing I would say is that you might want one violin to take your DD up to Grade 5, and then a different, better violin to take her to Grade 8. The advantage working with a specialist music shop is that they will give you trade-in value for the violin you have against any upgrade (Cardiff gives a generous 90%).

Good luck!

Thank you I’ll check them out. We have previously used caswell strings who do a plan where you can hire it and then they take that money off if you choose to buy it.
