Hi Mumsnet

We recently uploaded a performance grade exam video for ABRSM Trumpet. Does anyone know on average the wait for the results are?

I think some people have had them as quickly as 3 days after the actual date of exam, others longer. There is a very helpful music thread in this section you can look at too or ask on.

Thanks @horseymum. We received the results three days after the submission deadline.

I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the performance grade route. I was looking to enter my DD for his Grade 1 piano exam via the practical route. His tutor has advised that the practical route is preferable because of the scales and aural and sight reading. We are looking for scholarships at 11+ so i didnt want to jeopardises his options by taking the performance route potentially. Does anyone have any comments on this? I would grateful appreciate any advice. X

I think for grade 1 it is not really worth doing the performance exam, just ask the teacher to do a mock exam and then move on to new pieces. The introduction of performance exams was a good response to the Covid restrictions, but it’s a shame to lose the aural, scales and sight reading as well as the actual exam experience.

There is a misconception that the performance exam is “simply” the practical exam without the supporting tests.
Consequently, many candidates are receiving what they consider to be disappointing marks, because they haven’t grasped the importance of the performance element, which accounts for 30 marks.

Grade 1 scales, sight reading and aural tests shouldn’t be challenging, and especially not for a pupil who is looking at using music for school entrance exams.
