Bronze DofE

Can someone just confirm, in the absence of any parent information from school, that Bronze is:
6 months of volunteering OR skills OR physical
3 months of the other two
And an expedition?

Got to fill out DD's application form on Monday, but am struggling to find the info, even on the parents tab on the D of E website!

Also, DD currently volunteers with my Rainbow unit (currently on Zoom), and wants to continue doing that for her volunteering section. I'm the only leader, and I assume as her parent, I can't be her assessor. Any ideas how we can manage that? I have acted as assessor for previous DofE volunteers, and for someone's skills section.

TIA.

Can't someone else involved with Guides be her assessor?

RueDeWakening · 03/10/2020 17:39

I'm not sure - they won't have witnessed her doing anything, as I run the unit with a parent rota which has a different person there every week in normal times.

I'll ask her Guide leader about it though.

Our DoE coordinator is pretty relaxed in that kind of volunteering situation. Your DD should ask them about who can be assessor.

From DofE materials:
It will usually take you at least 6 months to complete your Bronze programme.

– Volunteering section: 3 months
– Physical section: 3 months
– Skills section: 3 months
– Expedition section: 2 days/1 night

You also have to spend an extra three months on one of the Volunteering, Physical or Skills sections. It’s your choice which one and, though you can change your mind later, you should decide which section you want to do for longer at the beginning. Knowing how long you’re going to do it for will help you to choose your activity and set your goals for each section.

So 3 months for 2 and 6months for one. You can also backdate one on them unless the rules have changed since I last led it.

You'd need someone else to sign off for her who can verify what she's been doing at Rainbows.

Thanks Lola - I've just messaged our Guiding county DofE advisor, who hopefully will be able to help, and might be able to come and observe her as I know she's in my district!

I'll get DD to ask the co-ordinator at school, too.

I'm sure it would be fine for you to be her assessor. You could get one of the other parent helpers to write something in her record book or whatever every week if you wanted something independent. That would be fine in our area.
