DS has just joined a local club recently. They have suggested he tries out for “district cricket U10s” which gives some winter training apparently. I just have no idea how this is all structured for children..

In swimming there is your club, then an annual county level competition, above that a regional competition and the national. All year there are competitions at those different levels.

What is the equivalent in junior cricket and where does “district” fit in? There is no district level swimming.

I can’t speak for all counties, but in our county there are 4 cricket districts, plus a county team.

Local clubs can send juniors to try out at district trials for each age group, held once a year. If successful, they are placed in a district squad, or if if exceptional, they may make the county squad.

It’s a few years since my sons played, but I seem to remember that they went to indoor winter training for 12 weeks, then a team was chosen from the squad to play a few inter-district games in the summer.

This was on top of any winter/summer training and matches played at club level.
